Транскрипція ['siɡn(ə)l] теж не дуже допомагає, якщо не знати, що "i" в ній слід читати як "и" (короткий, закритий "і"), а не "ē" (довгий, відкритий звук "і" - bee [bē]).

Перевірте себе, як ви вимовляєте "signal" англійською. Велика імовірність, що ви використали звук "і" замість "и" у першому складі (поширена помилка), менша - що поставили наголос на другий склад (наголос стоїть на першому). Оце от відкрите довге "і" скрізь - одразу видає нас.
