To be fair this job has been incredibly easy and enjoyable to work during my daytime hours on campus. It’s a great place to work. But my paycheck was $170 today. Last semester it rarely if ever dipped below $500. This is not sustainable nor is it a “living wage”!

I don’t think this model is ideal when your restaurant doesn’t have the budget or foot traffic to justify being open evening and weekend hours. And because the rest of FOH staff has never worked hospitality before, they don’t understand how much money is being left on the table
Functionally what is the point of advertising a “living wage” if you do not give them living wage hours. I could be working at an actual tipped restaurant that’s open evenings and weekends, I’d be paid far better even with the $1.80 cut down to minimum wage
Paying your campus restaurant employees $19/hr and running a no-tipping service is great and all… except for when the college needs to hack and slash budgets and suddenly my paycheck is less than what I made in 2015 as a cashier
www.instagram.com/reel/DEC7Zc9... she found this IG post and figured out the measurements from their posts, my big brain queen! she is not fond of paying for patterns 🩷
they are insanely warm! fisherman’s wool is oiled (i think) so all of these items are water resistant. the gloves can be unfurled to cover my hands more, and the hood can be worn a bunch of ways. the perfect gear for a protest/action in the cold lol
Wearing a handknit wool balaclava/hood type thing made with love by my mom.
Showing off a matching pair of handknit fingerless wool gloves made with love by mom.
my mom handknit me a balaclava-hood-neck warmer cozy thing, fingerless gloves and socks all in matching fisherman’s wool 🥹 feelin loved today

@bananaoftruth.bsky.social and i were talking about ontario zoos and when explaining this tidbit of my childhood to them it felt like explaining a fever dream. a corn pop for me, a corn pop for thee black bears
thinking about the bear pit at marineland… for the price of a few quarters you’d get a handful of corn pops (yes, the cereal) to chuck at a brutalist cement pit full of black bears starved for food and stimulation
