The world continues to be an endless trashfire, but at least we have the magnificent chaos of @thecroftonshow.bsky.social guest episodes on @dailyzeitgeist.bsky.social to look forward to. They are pure joy

‘Simply stop giving millionaires water for literally free’ is one of the most insane sounding but actually serious policy solutions out there

If you paid taxes for 2025, you likely paid:

$124 — school lunch & nutrition programs
$49 — diplomacy to prevent wars
$19 — USPS
$19 — Federal Aviation Administration
$18 — national parks

and

$4,049 — weapons and war.

These priorities are hurting us all. We need change. #TaxDay

When people are like, "Where is the money for X going to come from?" I'm like, the police budget. The money you are looking for is in the police budget. It's in police contracts (many of which mandate an annual increase--PVD's does) & police pensions, but it's also in things like the supply budget

Why am I both absolutely shocked and completely unsurprised that this occurred in 2026. I’m sure there are folk out there who won’t be happy till they can burn “witches” again

In reading that Philz coffee will be removing its Pride Flags from stores I also found they have been owned by private equity for the last few years… guess they are doubly dead to me now

NuCaloric advertisement for a Chicago Style Vapable Hot Dog. It is a mostly pink cylinder that says "NuCaloric" on the bottom with an icon of a chicago style hot dog, a yellow flat button, the text "312, Chicago Style" under the button and a white mouthpiece. The text in the upper left says "No ketchup. No bun. Full Flavor." and 312 in the upper right corner.

You deserve love. You deserve safety. And you sure as shit deserve a whole lot more than you are being given or even allowed.

You are seen. You are loved. You belong.

Happy Trans Day of Visibility to all of our brothers, sisters, and siblings out there. May every day get better from here.

Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer saying "it's paradoxical and yet it works"

Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer saying "it's paradoxical and yet it works"

I hold the simultaneous opinions that Marathon's art direction is good precisely because it is abrasive and not for everyone; and also if you don't like it then you're boring and I think you're a square.

US Presidential Party switches are mirrored in global maternal mortality In this observational study, we provide estimates of the impact on the maternal mortality ratio of swings in US aid for family planning and reproductive health driven by changes in the implementation ...

"Countries heavily reliant on US aid see a 10.5% increase in maternal mortality following a switch from a Democratic to a Republican administration—about 44.7 additional deaths per 100 000 live births."

Goldman Sachs reports that 300 million full-time jobs could be replaced by AI by 2030. Labor turnover is high and hiring has slowed. 71% of Americans worry that AI will cause permanent job loss. As young people about to enter the workforce for the first time, the fear of unemployment is understandable, but we cannot save ourselves with the very tool that is putting us at risk.

The irony is that as Penn pours endless money and energy into AI advancement in its attempt to get ahead, the University is only quickening its own demise. AI cannot coexist with education — it can only degrade it. As technology advances and workers are replaced by machines, schools are some of the only places we have left to explore and wrestle with human thought. With our own university leading the charge, AI is now corrupting those few sacred spaces and leaving us with nowhere to engage in true scholarship.

Editorials represent the majority view of members of The Daily Pennsylvanian Editorial Board who meet regularly to discuss issues relevant to the Penn community. This body is led by Editorial Board Chair Jack Lakis and is entirely separate from the newsroom. Questions or comments should be directed to letters@thedp.com.

An unaccounted for part of the economy is how much young people virulently hate AI, despite how aggressively it's being forced on them. They realize it's making their friends dumber and ruining the world and they want nothing to do with it.

The biggest movie is about science bros and the power of friendship and sacrifice, the biggest TV show is about good people doing their best under impossible circumstances to help suffering people, even under our culture’s institutionalized greed and cynicism, people are desperate for fellowship.

Doesn’t need to be forward, but something should always happen when the dice are rolled otherwise why roll? Mutant Year 0 said it best with “the only thing the GM can’t say is nothing happens” except in conflicts with lots of rolls where failed rolls have immediate and obvious consequences

Very funny to me, also, that "The Arsenal of Freedom" is the name of an episode in Star Trek TNG where autonomous AI weapons killed an entire civilization and there's a sales hologram still on the planet trying to sell them. it was originally a commentary in the sale of F-14 Tomcats to Iran(!)

it's all just art. "porn" is just art that makes you horny, in precisely the way that "horror" is art that makes you scared and "metroidvania" is art that makes you write video essays

Running this now and it’s an absolutely fantastic iteration on Blades in the Dark. I cannot say enough about how much I love the Corner and Trouble Engine. So go and grab yourself a copy if you haven’t already while it’s on sale

Requiem for a Dream and Irreversible are mine for sure.

Personally can’t wait to watch Black Death again so I can show it to Chris. Have you see that directors other movie Triangle? I think you would dig it

So when thousands of women (and children) were being duplicated--including in non-consensual AI porn--it was no big deal. But it took "only a 15-sec clip" of these two famous white men to draw outrage and fear. Gotcha. Cool cool.
