Maybe the approach should be taxation of information exchanged through social media platforms. They make money by mining our attention (a limited resource), so let’s tax their extraction of this public resource. And then tax them at a very high level for the attention of young people.

This is all so reminiscent of efforts around tobacco.
I understand the idea that a ban is not the solution whereas regulation is required to shield young users from certain content and addicting algorithms. However, when tech companies not only resist regulation but lie about their efforts, perhaps a ban is the next logical step.

Should be part of his next test.

If you can’t rely on legal reasoning, resort to intimidation and mob incitement.

As a professor for many years, I particularly enjoyed reading this thoughtful article in the Chronicle of Higher Education today. #academia
It’s a new form of consent. Before engaging, present proof of ID and citizenship. Sounds like a plan!
We just started moving after 2 hours and 40 minutes without a single message from #Exo. People are extremely frustrated. We can understand and accept disruptions. But no announcements or messages!?!

Would someone please contact Exo, the public train company in Montreal, and let them know that they have a train full of people stuck for the last 2.5 hours without movement? Exo hasn’t made a single announcement yet to explain what’s happening!!! 🤬 #Exo
Let’s just monetize everything so someone can make a lot of money off the suffering of others. Typical National Post. nationalpost.com/opinion/chri...

By the way, I asked ChatGPT for sixteen suggestions or questions on how New Brunswick could reduce its higher education budget and many looked quite similar to these.
Read the article and the incredibly simplistic 16 suggestions/questions raised by the Deputy Minister. They look like they were asked by an amateur with no familiarity with universities or the specific needs of New Brunswick, and they ask for a rapid response. This is the NB government in action?!?
Libertarian, not left. I think many are being driven more and more to the right because they feel they are under siege.

A masterclass in how to speak volumes while saying nothing. OpenAI has become a weapons manufacturer.
Precisely which American principles are being violated here? Can you be specific? Is it the principle of due process? Is it a principle of human rights? Is it a constitutional principle?
What a wonderful tribute to our cherished colleague at McGill University, Prof. David Harpp, who passed away earlier this week. A true "gentleman and scholar" if there ever was one. #McGill
In a 6-3 ruling, the Supreme Court overturns Trump's illegal (and uncontested by congress) tariffs. Great. But why are there 3 dissenters who seem to always be willing to allow Trump to do almost anything he wants? Who does the everyday citizen sue to get their hard-earned money back? #news
Forgive me for asking what may be a naive question: If Trump can't be found criminally responsible for his corruption, can he and his family be later sued by the public and states in civil courts for the these ill-gotten gains, which have come at the public expense?
A very insightful article for those who are worried (as I am) about the decline in book reading: "The choice isn’t between books and screens. The choice is between intentional design and profitable chaos" #books

Completely agree. Ford's solution is to pass the buck and not to do the hard work that is required to find a solution to the problem that his and previous governments have created. I wish we would start to elect people who would try to do the hard things that we wish had been done 30 years before.
