Knew this was coming. Something I've been noticing happening slowly for a while now. It's also happening in conjunction with the aging up of YA and the influx of romantasies that tend to feature cisallohet relationships and dabble in fascism-adjacent storytelling themes.
Experimenting with winter planting. A new row of carrots and beets today. They may not survive the cold (even in their covered beds), but if I try again every week or so, I'll find the timing that does work, and I'll know for next year!
First post of my book club up! Over on my Patreon, we're talking about The Magpie Lord, by KJ Charles. Come join in the fun!!
Happy New Year, everyone!!
This year, for me, will be all about trying to focus on the world around me, rather than getting overwhelmed by the world at large. Growing things with my hands. Making connections one-to-one. Finding ways I can help my close community.
A snowy porch, with a number of planters and snow-dusted plants.
Plants are all tucked in under the snow. It's so very cold out. I want to check on how all my lettuces and roots are doing under their covers, but I don't want to expose them to the cold.
No one told me gardening would be so much about patience.
Nepali White Prakash is the tea: a lovely, light white that is, to me, a very tea-tea. Added a touch of honey to brighten it up and it was an incredibly pleasant drink.
Wild Blueberry-Maple Syrup for the jam. A perfect start to the calendar! Strong blueberry. A touch of maple. Perfect.
A plate with muffins and jam next to a mug of tea and a journal.
First day of breaking open the Bonne Maman jam advent calendar!! Going through it with @luketolvaj.bsky.social and @svranderson.bsky.social . We started on December 1st, but will be taking it at our own pace.
Also: day six of Friday Tea's Tea-vent calendar. (Can you tell I love advent calendars??)
That book is one of my absolute favorites.
You’re a fellow queer writer. I love your insights and your tea. And your biting wit.
That is a fucking crime. IwtV is some of the best TV to happen since Hannibal.
objective quality is fake and most people are really just judging how much they enjoyed something instead of how well it accomplished the thing it was setting out to do, because answering that question requires being curious about what it was trying to do
Serialized fiction is alive and strong on Wattpad, Royal Road, and even AO3. It’s going to be hard for publishers to work with, I think, because it’s hard to monetize in a traditional way. People don’t want to pay for each episode. (Although many people are successful with a Patreon model.)
Yes. Write!! 🤨
I was so pissed at Raphael in the beginning, but he does get better and there are so many AMAZING characters.
Right???
I will say that the season 2 end, with the fight played out through Behind Blue Eyes, is one of my favorite things ever. So I’m here for the big swings!
Yes! And I love the way they pass the melodies back and forth.
It has a permanent home on all my playlists.
Stephen Universe. Love is the answer.
Yeah, I’d also be super interested in this because I am NOT doing Windows 11.
(Sameen could do everything John could do only backwards and in heels).
Yes. THANK YOU. It is amazing and not enough people understand that fundamental truth.
Also, I would die for Shaw. And Bear.
2nd Person of Interest. It may be the most perfect show ever made.
Ask me about my feelings about Molag Ball after doing waaaaay to many dark anchors in Elder Scrolls Online.
There is a Skyrim exception to all writing time requirements.
Or...maybe this is why I don't get enough writing done.
One of the first mods I ever installed was the one that made Brynjolf marriageable. Because yes.
