It would not pass the lick test as it is made to biodegrade at end of life, otherwise it would be entirely useless to me to protect my products during festival season. It is designed to be short term stable - it needs to get warm (58 degrees) and moist to biodegrade in home or commercial composts.

I’d double check what the rules are - but PLA is made from vegetable starches so in theory yes! 😎
