The military has a duty to refuse unlawful orders, but Congress has a duty to remove from office a president and secretary who would issue such orders. There is something off about members of Congress talking about the former while refusing to say the latter, the part that's actually their job here.

"My mentor always tells me, 'Kim, dogs don’t bark at parked cars." They’re coming after critical race theory, 1619, intersectionality because these ideas mobilized people. They gave them the language to actually articulate what they were seeing with their own eyes," says Kimberlé Crenshaw.
Well this was a surprise to find.
I was officially sworn in as a member of the Baltimore City Veterans Commission. It’s a privilege to join this body and stand alongside fellow veterans in service to our community.
I look forward to contributing to initiatives that uplift and support those who have worn the uniform.

Remembering today when pro-GOP media erupted with outrage over Kamala Harris' warning that Trump had plans to militarize the national guard and deploy them on the streets of US cities. Indeed, he had such plans. And now he's implementing them.

Wes Moore on Fox & Friends: "Our National Guards are not trained for this ... we know the missions that they are trained for. Municipal policing is not one of them. If we want to be serious about making people safe, let's actually do the things that make people safe."
It’s true that surprisingly few philosophers have worked on smell, taste and flavour (though thankfully that’s changing). I think that says something both about #philosophy and how dominated by vision we are as a species and a culture… #PhilSmell #PhilTaste #PhilPerception
Lawrence Grandpre of Leaders of a Beautfiul Struggle will speak about inequity and the drive to form a Reparations Commission for Maryland. Join us this Sunday at 10:30 AM in person and online - www.meetup.com/bmorethical/...
Been quiet on here—just wrapped up 8 weeks at UIUC’s SROP where I researched how language and systems shape how we see ourselves. Presented my work last week and feeling grateful.
I did something a little different this week.
I wrote a reflective piece on anxiety—not as a problem to solve, but as something I’ve been trying to understand and live with more honestly.

Glad you really enjoyed it! I’m actually writing my next post right now. That should be out soon!
It was super interesting! Here is the link:

A panel of experts sits at the front of a lecture hall during a public philosophy event. Behind them is a large screen displaying the event title: “How Do Knowledge & Flawed Reasoning Influence the Public and Our Leaders?” The moderator stands at a podium to the left.
A flyer for a public event hosted by Great Talk and the Alexander Grass Humanities Institute. It lists the event title, date, location, and features photos and names of the panelists, along with sponsor logos from LifeBridge Health, Morgan Stanley, and GWWO Architects.
Went to a powerful talk last night at UMD Law on how flawed reasoning shapes public life. Huge thanks to the panelists and GreatTalk Inc. for creating space for these conversations. We need more of this. #PublicPhilosophy #Baltimore
Our convo on The Philosophy of Civil Disobedience went deeper than expected. What started with Thoreau turned into a real look at what blocks resistance today—fear, risk, co-optation. Not easy, but necessary. Part two’s on the way.
Tonight!
To the world:
We are fighting back. Our movement has been silenced by the media here—but we are not backing down. This is what our streets looked like across multiple cities. Tomorrow, there will be more of us! Raise a glass to freedom.

Your American allies.

We were cleaning Chinas clock economically. Many predicted they would surpass us by now, and they haven’t.
But this tariff stuff will close the gap. Idiots
Dark Pence is back.
Do you know who laid the foundation for the FDA?
President Theodore Roosevelt. Do you know why? Because he read a great piece of literature that exposed the mistreatment of immigrant workers and the disgusting, unsanitary practices in meatpacking plants…
The book is called “The Jungle.”
I’m keeping Reddit still!
Congratulations to Judge Susan Crawford on her victory, and to the people of Wisconsin for electing a judge who believes in the rule of law and protecting our freedoms.
I deleted the Facebook and Instagram apps. I was really nervous because I like using them for finding events. I decided to just take a leap of faith and do it. I’ll probably check @baltimorebeat.bsky.social for events now just to stay hip to everything going on.
Disruption is all they seem to understand—so that’s exactly what they’re getting. For 14 hours, @booker.senate.gov has been on the Senate floor, speaking truth within the rules. This cannot be business as usual when our democracy’s on the line. Thank you, senator.
