A fucked up thing about running a small nonprofit is having to be your own HR & IT departments, a plumber/boiler tech/HVAC specialist & a fundraising event manager (who magically spends no money) on top of doing direct service while trying to keep the lights on.
I haven't had a break in 10 months.

HAHAHAH
Possibly people who get any time off ever? Babies, maybe? I dunno.
Today is testing my famous stoic resolve.
I might do a violence the next time someone asks if I had a "restful holiday season."
Fairbanks' ongoing cold snap stats:

• 19 days low temp ≤-40F most since 1970-71
• 6 days high temp ≤-40F most since 1988-89

I love a good shepherd's pie: whatever ya got with a little gravy, topped with mashed potatoes.
It's -25°F right now & that practically feels BALMY after the fast few weeks.
My dad gave it to me for Christmas!

I love my job

My big plan right now is to just win the lottery, give everyone at the soup kitchen $10K & then lie face down for a month.
Y'all. I'm so tired & so sad.
Waffle House has better de-escalation than cops
Black & gold sparkle graphic with text reading: 74,327 meals served at the Stone Soup Cafe in 2026
Our soup kitchen served 74,327 meals in 2025... thousands & thousands more than any previous year in the Bread Line's history of feeding #Fairbanks.
I am deeply proud of how this team shows up & we're not enough. The ongoing elevation of community need is alarming.

Rave reviews from the family!
Thank you - my first ever!
Nope - that was the 23rd
A four-image collage of the Bread Line's boiler room & dining hall flooded with glycol + a picture of a toy "dumpster fire"
Swab the decks or deck the halls - makes no difference - it's all in a day's work!
An overhead view of a fruit-laden pavlova on a large white platter.
Please admire the ABSOLUTELY PERFECT PAVLOVA that I made during the soup kitchen's massive boiler failure!
I can see green leaves from here!
Balmy!
Nope! Everything is terrible after -30°F, in my experience.
Never been one much for rule following!
RICK - MAKE IT STOP
Honestly, feels like -203°F...
Yes!
It was 75° warmer at Antarctica's McMurdo Station today!
Three people standing in the snow in front of the University of Alaska Fairbanks' "Welcome to the UAF Troth Yeddha' Campus" sign. The digital temperature display reads -38°F
It WAS -40° when we got there...
That sounds super tasty - I'll try it!
I've consumed an unadvisable amount of eggnog (any)
Not to be confused with the REAL @santaclausalaska.bsky.social ...my dad just plays Santa for neighborhood kids @ the local fire station at Christmas. ♥️♥️
