Aaah true true! I forgot about that. Yeah I was thinking comics exclusively, that wasn't adapted into the comics until the 90s. Giganta only appeared twice in the comics before the crisis reboot

Not sure if Giganta is a homage, definitely not originally since in the golden age she was just a gorilla woman, she didn't get size shifting powers until the late 90s

There's an eight year timeskip in the epilogue where she's a young adult by that point. I'd also just assume it's because she's the female lead of the story
