The cover of the Cruelty of Nice Folks depicts a black and white photo in which a Black person looks straight at the camera over the shoulder of a wealthy white woman in pearls and gloves, seen from the mouth down. The white woman grips her purse strap with one hand and her mouth is set in a grimace. The subtitle reads "Why Minneapolis is the Story of America."

Also reading THE CRUELTY OF NICE FOLKS by Justin Ellis, an incredibly timely book about the history of Minneapolis and the distance between its reputation as a very progressive place and the truth of how white supremacy has shaped it. A really fascinating and thought-provoking read. #ewgc

Currently reading MUDLARK by Mary Helen Specht, a dystopian novel about a woman who unexpectedly stumbles across the master for her rock star mother's long lost solo album while "mudlarking" in a flooded NYC. Could her missing mother also be out there looking for it? #ewgc 📚 💙

I tore through NASTY LITTLE SECRETS by Gabbie Hanks. A twisty and suspenseful read about a writer returning to her hometown after her sister's disappearance...a place where she is far from popular after writing a book pinning a murder on the victim's father rather than her convicted brother. #ewgc

VERVAIN HOLLOW by Catriona Silvey brings some seriously creepy vibes in a tale of a woman returning to the house where she once lived in a cult centered around the mysterious Vervain and his unsettling powers. The house burned down years ago...but something has survived. #ewgc 📚 💙

CROCODILOPOLIS by John Manuel Arias is a brutal literary tale brimming with toxic masculinity. The tale of two brothers, a bitter feud, and violence rippling across generations of a family. The crocodiles aren't the only bloodthirsty characters here! #ewgc

THE WINDSOR AFFAIR by Melanie Benjamin was a fun lighter, gossipy read about the rivalry between Wallis Simpson and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. Read this when you're in the mood for rich women behaving badly. #ewgc 📚 💙

MARLA by Jonathan Janz is another horror read that had me 100% hooked from start to finish. A series of violent murders traumatizes a small community, and the beautiful but reclusive Marla Gorman seems to hold the secret behind them all. So creepy!!! #ewgc 📚 💙

MAZYWOOD by Tananarive Due skyrocketed to the top of my TBR the moment the e-galley was available...and it completely met my high expectations. A fantastic, suspenseful read that artfully blends chilling horror with old Hollywood glamour. Loved all the celebrity cameos! #ewgc 📚 💙

You have more in common with the people of Iran than you do with anyone in this administration, any member of the technocracy, anyone who is profiting from this war, or any billionaire. When you see Iranians forming human chains outside key infrastructure sites, you should feel a sense of kinship.

I'm not sure how you can be against removing this man from office right now. What will it take? A nuke being dropped? It's too late then. The purpose of impeachment and the 25th Amendment is to prevent that type of thing from happening, not just to react to it.

if you are a bigot or support bigotry or act in a movie built on the profits of hate, people are allowed to not like you 1. because bigotry is bad and 2. because people generally DONT LIKE THINGS THAT HURT THEM. like this is so obvious. it is not 'canceling' it is an exercise in basic human autonomy

Official government website of the Illinois General Assembly Welcome to the Official government website of the Illinois General Assembly

Just watched Illinois move one step closer to a consumer protection bill that would put a stop to the price gouging of libraries for digital materials.

Someone said they didn't know why they didn't do this sooner, and I agree. Enough is more than enough. ilga.gov/Legislation/...

If your books are in the Anthropic copyright settlement...don't be this guy.

Yes, a crappy gift card is the expectation in many class action settlements, but not this time: per work payout is at least $3,000, & may be higher.

If you don't file, you get nothing. Deadline is 3/30. File today.
