Me in 2057 explaining to 20-something CyberTrotskiests that yes, Trump and Hegseth destroyed the fossil fuel industry, the American empire, and the American military, but it wasn’t what they were trying to do.
this of course is just a slightly updated vision of eugenics
if you are "sick" — which, again for RFK is a function of race, class and perceived purity — then there is nothing you can do in the face of disease and death, you are destined to succumb. the upshot either way is we do not need vaccines or most modern medical interventions.
if you are "healthy" — which appears to be a function of race, class and the purity of your body, as defined by what you eat and drink — then you cannot be truly sick and you do not need modern medicine.
the way this makes sense for RFK is that "healthy people" and "sick people" are ontological categories.
the general election is maybe somewhat different...but we're not in the general election. you've got to get through the primary first.
yucking it up with steve bannon is not the way to win a D primary right now.
the calculus here seems pretty straightforward to me, and I do not understand why supposedly savvy political actors are having trouble figuring it out.
or you know, people rushing to talk about middle class tax cuts.
again, D primary voters want to hear how many people in Trump's administration you are going to send to the hague.
like, Booker, Beshear, Slotkin have all kind of come out of the gate by...punching left.
I don't think that's how you win a D primary this year.
2028 candidates in general don't seem to have realized that the party wants them to compete to destroy trump, and it's weird. 1
Reminder Virginia has 3 more referendums on the November ballot
Adding language to Virginia constitution:
- Protect right to abortion
- Remove ban on Same Sex marriage
- Restore voting rights to those convicted of felonies once they serve their sentence
Expect all 3 to pass
Sean Parnell, spokesman for Pete Hegseth: STATEMENT: Secretary of the Navy John C. Phelan is departing the administration, effective immediately. On behalf of the Secretary of War and Deputy Secretary of War, we are grateful to Secretary Phelan for his service to the Department and the United States Navy. We wish him well in his future endeavors. Undersecretary Hung Cao will become Acting Secretary of the Navy.
Trump just fired the Secretary of the Navy and replaced him with Undersecretary Hung Cao, one of the biggest idiots Virginia politics has produced this century (really saying something here) in the middle of the Iran war
Why can’t we rely on Canada, did our government do something that alienated them
Burchett is right: the most DC thing ever *is* a member of Congress blaming the city for something he and his colleagues did themselves.
Reporter: What do you make of Republicans saying that Virginia—
AOC: Wah wah wah.
We have asked Republicans for 10 years to ban partisan gerrymandering. And for 10 years, Republicans have said no.
What they’re just mad at is that they have been accustomed to a Democratic Party that rolls over.
If I ran a site that attracted funny sexy inclusive people I would simply be proud of my user base instead of menacing them daily

I remain firmly convinced you can learn everything you need to know about a person from one question:
Would you rather a "DESERVING" person go WITHOUT or an "UNDESERVING" person go WITH?
He also has a famously unrefined palette so it's entirely possible he just doesn't like the taste of alcohol and turned it into A Thing

"Remember: Emily Posts Initial Content (EPIC)" this person sounds exhausting and also I would watch a 6 part miniseries
The conflation of strongly held policy views and strongly held values is very annoying!
Totally off-topic, but did y'all the know the Free State of Florida's citrus industry is basically dead??
This is quite a story:

In the past 9 days we have lost about 1% of the US House of Representatives to resignations or death.
Lots of retired lib boomer priests were uptight conservatives in their youth. We’re all moving targets.
On the other hand, this administration is actively destroying the federal government charging infrastructure www.gsa.gov/about-us/new...
Single-member districts are a bad system no matter how you slice it. No matter which goal you set out of the various contradictory criteria, it's all the tyranny of the map. It's all divvying up in advance how many seats each party gets rather than being responsive to the voters every two years.
Doesn't change the point that Republicans oppose any such national policy, but "ban gerrymandering" as if that makes it all neutral is really not as simple as that. There are lots of possible criteria and processes to define what's "fair," and they have easily legible partisan consequences.
