A tweet from Representative Thomas Massie that reads:

I just viewed 2 Top Secret FISA docs.
1) FISA Court opinion that raises serious concerns about FBI implementation of FISA 702.
2) letter by Senator Wyden describing a secret government interpretation of FISA law.
The Constitution requires I vote No on FISA 702 reauthorization.

I sent a classified letter to House and Senate colleagues about a secret interpretation of surveillance law that every American should be concerned about.

Representative Massie is right. The Constitution requires EVERY member to vote against a clean reauthorization.

Tinker, Tailor, Trust: How Developers Create Privacy Policies With and Without AI | Proceedings of the 2026 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems

New research from our lab, appearing at #CHI2026:

We studied how mobile app developers create privacy policies, with and without AI. The strategies varied, but plenty do just open an LLM and ask it to write a privacy policy for them.

Share Your Story: Impacts of the Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE) at the National Science Foundation (NSF) Following the release of the President's Budget Request (PBR) on April 3rd, NSF quickly and quietly took steps to begin to dismantle the SBE Directorate. The Federation of Associations in the Behavioral and Brain Sciences (FABBS) wants to hear about how the SBE Directorate at NSF has supported your research and career. Your stories help FABBS communicate to policymakers and the public what’s at stake when the federal government fails to fund critical sciences. We may follow up for clarification, but we will not share your name or institution publicly without your permission.

🚨 NSF is already quietly eliminating the SBE Directorate, despite Congress’ mandate that NSF support the behavioral & social sciences.

Steps to counter this are in motion.

If you
- have an SBE proposal under review
- serve on an SBE grant panel

WE DID IT!

Our illegal union @uam-umd.bsky.social is a lot less illegal today. 12,000 contingent faculty in MD just won the right to collectively bargain. Life-changing win for teachers and students. Only happened bc thousands of people worked together to beat our bosses in the statehouse.

We do now know the NSF is proceeding with dissolving the Social and Behavioral Sciences Division. Congress might reverse it, but it is now already underway. YOU CAN NO LONGER SUBMIT FUNDING PROPOSALS TO SBE. Program officers are being moved to different parts of the agency. Call your Congress member

Today the bill granting collective bargaining rights to Maryland's non-tenure track faculty passed out of the Senate!

Unfortunately while certain groups of non-tenure track faculty are omitted, today's vote brings us closer than ever to granting all faculty the rights already enjoyed... [1/3]

Adjunct faculty at UMD schools deserve collective bargaining rights - Maryland Daily Record Commentary: Adjunct faculty at University of Maryland seek collective bargaining rights through legislation to improve pay, etc.

Adjunct faculty at UMD are fighting for union rights — and fair pay. Teaching 4+ classes/year for $57K, no benefits, and juggling family life — all while deans earn 6x more. HB 0106 could change that.

Remember, boys. This is baseball. We are not here to have fun, enjoy anything, or create happiness in ourselves or the crowd. We are here to grind our teeth and stare at people until they submit to our will. Much like Judge Dredd. Now go out there and be like the military.

In a statement to The Crimson, Summers wrote that the decision to leave was “difficult” and that he remained “grateful to the thousands of students and colleagues I have been privileged to teach and work with since coming to Harvard as a graduate student 50 years ago.”

“Free of formal responsibility, as President Emeritus and a retired professor, I look forward in time to engaging in research, analysis, and commentary on a range of global economic issues,” he added.

When academia's stars mistreat people, they're "punished" with relief from teaching, mentoring, and service responsibilities. This frees them to spend more time on the more valued work of research. And dumps less valued responsibilities onto colleagues, making it harder for them to become stars.

It was so cool to go to this townhall in @senbillferg.bsky.social's district, see just how many university workers live there, and learn that, after stopping ICE, the top issue was union rights for USM workers. A million thanks to brilliant videographer Josh Davidsburg for capturing it all on film.

ICE Asks Companies About ‘Ad Tech and Big Data’ Tools It Could Use in Investigations A new federal filing from ICE demonstrates how commercial tools are increasingly being considered by the government for law enforcement and surveillance.

The latest evidence that broadcasting people’s movements and intimate data in the Real-Time Bidding online advertising system is truly dangerous.
