Forty years ago tonight, Al Capone's supposed "vault" was opened on live TV. A new book about the fiasco is out today. And here's a story from @chicagomag.com: www.chicagomag.com/city-life/wh...

Were no SoCal, but we can muster some golden early evening light at the ballpark once in a while. Let’s go, Cubs.
Great presentation from @billpearch.bsky.social tonight at the Dwight Historical Society. Even better, there were free baseball cards! 💥
I'm excited to share that we've made a collection of historic Supreme Court Records and Briefs available via
@archive.org
I've written a blog post where I go into detail about the importance of this collection.

Uni-Watch died for this trend to revive? Oh, the humanity.

Donation receipt to New American Pathways, which serves refugees in my home state. Donation of $95.62 + fees to match the final score of Michigan’s Elite Eight win — the first time I’ve ever seen my team cut down the nets in person. Go Blue.
First one is for fun: $95.62 + fees for being there in person to watch the nets get cut down. Go Blue. @newap-georgia.bsky.social
The sheer joy that @ckamka.bsky.social graphics bring to me every day is a wonderful thing.

Michigan, reigning champions! This year, the Wolverines flexed their muscle on the court. Huge season for the women's and men's basketball teams, including a men's championship! Victors always, and Charity Bowl legends.

"I twerked on it back in my day" is a statement that was just made on Sunday Night Baseball. I think we're watching the peak right now, it's all downhill from here
I’ve had the same editor since 1967. Many times he has said to me over the years or asked me, Why would you use a semicolon instead of a colon? And many times over the years I have said to him things like: I will never speak to you again. Forever. Goodbye. That is it. Thank you very much. And I leave. Then I read the piece and I think of his suggestions. I send him a telegram that says, OK, so you’re right. So what? Don’t ever mention this to me again. If you do, I will never speak to you again

Well here's a connection between the Okefenokee Swamp, UGA, and Chicago that I never would have guessed in a million years.

Not sure any piece of art has ever taken my breath away quite like this one did the first time I turned the corner at the Art Institute and saw it on display. Took me a moment to look down and not up, realize what I was seeing, and then … whoosh.
Women have always played baseball/have always been good at math. Sallie Pero was an award winning math student/3 sport athlete, including baseball, at Columbia. Read about Sallie and about women were the original computers. @iwbc4me.bsky.social @awm-math.org

It was a busy day yesterday promoting "101 Lessons From The Dugout." Thanks to Justin Oland for inviting me to speak at Commack North Little League Opening Day, and to Jay Goldberg for setting me up at the SABR Casey Stengel chapter - and to the iconic @richackerman.bsky.social for joining us!
We always have a great time playing vintage baseball in Hobart (at the old Woods Grist Mill off Lincoln Hwy). Must have had a crowd of nearly 200 there last summer to watch our game, plus a brass band for pregame entertainment.
Salute to every CTA bus driver for real … they always get us there safely and often in gnarly traffic
They’re hitting us all up!

A full house at the Chicago Public Library Daley Branch for today’s screening of “My Father, Dick Allen” with @johnpowens.bsky.social and friends. Lots of well-deserved cheers for @played41.bsky.social, who is also here. dickallen15film.com
