The pause on funding for theoretical particle physics postdoctoral grants was not due to budget cuts. The funding remains available within the STFC consolidated grant and can be used at any point within the four-year duration of the grant.

The government's record £38bn investment for UKRI over the coming years includes £14.5bn for curiosity-driven research.
