While their journey ended prematurely four decades ago, ours continues, with grace, kindness, and curiosity.

One of the things she took with her to space was a t-shirt that said "I touch the future. I teach." Just 8 yrs after the Challenger disaster, I started clarityinnov8.bsky.social to help educators use technology better. It was no accident that one of our early slogans was "The future is the focus."

40 years ago today, when I was in 5th grade, I witnessed a horrible tragedy on live television— the loss of the Space Shuttle Challenger. I was excited that an educator, Christa McAuliffe, was going into space. (If you can't already tell, being an astronaut was a childhood dream.)

Those were fantastic educators.
