“with families picking up the pieces”. And those without it would seem are doubly stuffed. I do hope this review isn't going to ignore the demographic shift of fewer ppl with children and smaller families in general. There isn't an army of siblings/nieces/nephews either

At last!
It’s fantastic to see Europeans coming together on the world stage - a set of strong, talented and united leaders working together in harmony and finally acting like a superpower in the face of an angry, chaotic and dysfunctional America.
Sadly it’s only in f***ing golf ⛳️

Here is a really useful article that discusses this "quieter experience that tends to go unnoticed" and what organisations may consider.

Last month’s 10 year plan for the NHS in England proposed initiatives aimed at patients as consumers of services.
Are more choice and consumerism really solutions to the NHS’s woes? @mancunianmedic.bsky.social

Great article in The Independent on ageing without children www.independent.co.uk/life-style/c... #age #ageing
I remain unclear on how the people who use services will be supported at a local level to have their voices heard both independently of the organisations which need to hear them and without the risk of distortion by party politics.
The assumption made in this article is that “friends & family” are stepping in but given demographic changes, rise in isolation & that those affected are mainly over 65, are we sure that is what’s happening and ppl aren’t just being left to cope alone?

For all the blanket coverage it's getting today you wouldn't know that fishing contributes a grand total of 0.03% to the UK's economy, or that it is absolutely dwarfed by many other sectors, like the live music industry, which have been badly hit by Brexit but are rarely even mentioned
The debate around care visas in the political space boils down to people saying stuff like this - we desperately need people.
It's a good soundbite but...
A significant surge in care visas were issued since 2020 in response to sector demand and yet the problem of shortage has persisted.
Why?
We have a desperate shortage of care workers. This has a catastrophic effect on the NHS too.
Labour’s decision to close the care worker visa scheme for overseas recruitment is appalling, kneejerk politics that - yet again - will penalise the most vulnerable.

My concern is that this aspect will be completely overlooked in favour of an NHS professionalised health agent workforce. important for communities to be involved in this roll out from
the off
“Trust is key to the success of the scheme, especially in areas where a knock on the door can prove unwelcome.
So, crucially, a community health agent is always recruited from the areas they serve, even living on the very street where they work.”

They tried this model on an estate in North Somerset but missed out the crucial element - that it was local ppl contacting local ppl using their networks. Parachuting in outsiders won’t work. Must be grassroots and enabling local communities to address own challenges

“they may be less likely to contact services or disclose their experiences because they feel like they might not be believed, might be dismissed, or they might feel that they’re taking services away from younger women who need it more.”

Given that 20% of ppl over 50 don’t have any children, the assumption that everyone old has offspring is something that needs challenging full stop!
