Just reskeeted (and then unreskeeted because it's incorrect) that 42% of Labour PMs have fired Peter Mandelson. Actually only 29% of Labour PMs have fired Peter Mandelson, but a further 14% gave him a job then lost an election before he could get fired.

I remember the days when the American military was nothing to be sneezed at - now it's a very viable strategy.

Mad fact... 42% of Labour Prime Ministers have had to fire Peter Mandelson.

flipping through a proof of yet another book from a somewhat well known liberal voice diagnosing “where the left went wrong” and i’m struck, again, by the fact that a large part (if not most) of the liberal commentariat simply does not believe that the political right has agency.

And this is why they are polling below 20%.

30%? Have these people been living under a rock?

Yeah the 'no work' core vote is still the same level, what's changed is the amount of work needed to shift up to the 'core plus mobilised plus opportunists' level.

What went wrong in Israel? A genocide scholar examines ‘what Zionism became’ In his new book, Omer Bartov tracks how a liberatory strand of Zionism transformed into an extremist ideology that he sees as responsible for genocide in Gaza

Israeli genocide scholar Omer Bartov will have his book on Zionism and genocide translated into 9-10 languages, but not Hebrew. He even offered to translate it himself, but not a single Israeli publisher would go near it. Not even the ‘leftwing’ ones.

That's true, but the amount of effort needed to get Greens on the radar is much lower this year than it was even 2 years ago.

At a local level there's still just about enough local media, and direct experience, to get the word out -- and RefUK's rep is suffering in consequence. But I think that alas lots of other local authorities are going to have to go through the shite before 'RefUK = clowns' becomes general.

Here's a result (left) from the all-up elections for Leicestershire last year, alongside a result (right) in the same place from a by-election last week. RefUK vote right down, both Tories and Greens chasing hard.

Again, I'm not commenting on the scandal itself, because we're in a Pre-Election Period and I like my job, but I do note that the interviewer is sat next to the husband of the Foreign Secretary.

It seems very odd that everyone continues to pretend Ed Balls is just another interviewer/presenter.

Yeah and he's a shit in-person politician, but . . . so is Starmer.

This is why I've jacked the whole thing in, rather than hankering for any part time (or worse, unpaid) work. No point in being part of the problem.

I know this, you know this, but the vast majority of British voters rely on the national mass media to tell them what's happening, so they don't know this.

Also, chain efficiency is like 98%, it's unreal. Even with oo la la superdooper magnets, going through a dynamo then a motor is shit. Dynamo - battery in - battery out - motor' is unbelievably shit.

Yeah TBH I was going to slightly facetiously say 'France' but I don't think they've ever done the 'sabotage own party two elections in a row' thing. Since the end of the Third Republic, anyway.

I won’t relitigate the whole thing but: all that shit you saw play out this morning? That was the whole point of the exercise, the reason why Mandelson and McSweeney recruited Sir Keir as their vocalist, the reason why it’s now all so desperately bleak and corrupt. Because these lads had to get paid

In two to three years time, when Starmer and his government are no doubt deeply unpopular, I hope we in the media will ask ourselves: "Why were we so supine during the long 2024 election; why didn't we hold Labour properly to account while we could, and ask more probing questions, and explore their records, rather than give them such an easy ride?"

I think we can see the reason for this is the same as any number of abysmal scandals at all kinds of major British institutions: Nobody wants to go lifting rocks because of the very high risk that moving one of them will send a geyser of scalding hot corruption leaping two hundred feet into the air.

Fascists and Nazis hate history, and historians; but understand the power of history. Thats why, across the world, they work so hard to control HOW we tell stories about the past, to drive out diverse critical voices and perspectives, to ensure a narrative that makes them look good.

I hope you're all happy that Starmer is flailing.

Wes Streeting is at home right now crying his eyes out in indecision.

I haven't seen that either, I have seen him row back on transphobia in general.
