Deeply concerning and... that's not very free market of them!
❌ Simplification should not mean deregulation.
✅ The time has come to adopt a multilateral approach regarding EU environmental policies. It is a matter of global leadership 🌎

🧵 The latest stocktake from our Legislation and Governance Unit takes a snapshot of UK and EU financial sustainability reporting regulations since Brexit.
While both have introduced anti-greenwashing measures, companies operating across borders face slow reform and duplication.

A HISTORIC MILESTONE: For the first time, solar power generated more electricity globally than nuclear, making it the world’s 4th largest power source.
In just 5 years, solar output nearly tripled—from 79 TWh (Apr 2020) to 233 TWh (Apr 2025). The energy transition is speeding up.

Thank you, Aurora Floridia, for your support for the legal protection of the right to a #HealthyEnvironmentForAll at the @coe.int!
@pace.coe.int members are once again showing leadership on this crucial issue.
Ministers must do the same at their May meeting - time to act NOW & recognise the right!
Very welcome move by Defra to extend the ban on burning on peatlands.
We’ll be responding to the consultation as we want to see default ban extended even further to ALL burning on peatlands.

Nature & farming groups are united in calling for Government to not cut the nature-friendly farming budget🧑🌾
Budget cuts would hit farming families, scupper climate action & cause further damage to rivers, landscapes & wildlife🥀
Important questions remain unanswered in the wake of the SFI announcement.
How will farmers take up Integrated Pest Management if there is no live funding...and no fully operational/resourced sustainable farming advisory service?
4/4.
However, last week's closure of the Sustainable Farming Incentive threw the farming sector into more uncertainty.
Gov't needs to commit support to farmers converting to organic who are now at risk of being left behind + those transitioning to pesticide-free, nature-friendly farming. 3/
You guessed it: organic! For decades, organic farmers have farmed in harmony with nature, using a more holistic approach to pest management without the hazardous, synthetic pesticides that the NAP is seeking to reduce. 2/
The UK published its National Action Plan on sustainable use of pesticides today:
✅Sets the UK's first pesticide reduction target
✅Encourages uptake of Integrated Pest Management
Yet, the NAP is mysteriously silent on a productive farming system that has long thrived w/o artificial pesticides 1/
Demand for organic soars just as Defra cuts support for sustainable farming
More shoppers than ever are seeking out organic according to @thesoilassociation.bsky.social Organic Market Report, but UK farmers loosing out.
Our analysis 🔽
The Government's abrupt announcement to halt the SFI will ultimately harm nature-friendly farmers who are producing sustainable food for our society.
Smaller, family farms and organic producers risk facing disproportionate impacts with this short-sighted, and entirely avoidable decision.
A good part of my job is to read extremely concerning studies in order to compose cross-sectional view of What's At Stake and work out ways to engage stakeholders
This is, without hyperbole, the most concerning thing I have read in a long time www.scientificamerican.com/article/micr...
🚨Breaking news! Yesterday the High Court issued a HUGE win for the River Wye
🐔Industrial poultry farming is a major source of agricultural pollution of our soils, waterways & air
👉The Court held that farming manure *is* waste: a step forward for reducing pollution & boosting the circular economy!

"In the face of the current wave of environmental backlash and net zero scaremongering, rejecting Rosebank is a golden opportunity for the UK to draw a line in the sand against the myths and misinformation" writes @carolinelucas.bsky.social in our latest blog.

A healthy environment is a prerequisite for the realization of all #HumanRights.
That is why it's critical that @coe.int Member States explicitly protect the right to a #HealthyEnvironmentForAll within the European Convention of Human Rights.
A mini 🧵👇
The great strength of the Climate and Nature Bill is that it was developed from the very beginning with climate and biodiversity scientists (including me as it happens)
It's not based on what politicians think will be expedient, but on what the evidence says is necessary
This + recent 'news and bats' rhetoric coming from Reeves is a betrayal of the British public.
People want to protect nature and mitigate climate change.
Why is this Government intent on repeating the mistakes of its predecessor by pitting economic growth against transformative change?
Organic: the preserve of the privileged? We don't think so! #OFRC25 session starting now with @sustainweb.org
