Check out this awesome virtual field trip of Jamaican Mangroves by my colleague Denise Henry and her team at Forestry!! 🇯🇲 🌳 💕
Take a virtual tour of the beautiful mangrove ecosystem and learn about the different types of mangrove trees and their habitats.

My History of Earth and Life lab is having fun playing @rowanmartindale.bsky.social “Taphonomy: Dead and Fossilized” game today. I always find it interesting how different groups of students organize their boards, erm, differently. Highly, highly recommend this game.
In review!
More coming soon (hopefully)
Many thanks to all our wonderful colleagues who helped out with the work Bernard Lathuilière, Francois François-Nicolas Krencker, Tanner Fonville, Sinjini Sinha, Lahcen Kabiri and Stéphane Bodin.
Congratulations to Travis Stone on the acceptance of his third PhD Manuscript! Early Jurassic Reef 🪸 Recovery patterns following the Pliensbachian-Toarcian crisis in Maroc 🇲🇦
The paper is open access, and you can find it here: doi.org/10.1016/j.pa...
Look what arrived in the mail! A colorful cute geotimline game from @rowanmartindale.bsky.social !
It has been online for a year, but it is now published, (w)undergrad Barbara Sulbaran's thesis is a paper!
Factors that promote cooperation, learning, & engagement with geoscience concepts when playing educational board games in an entry-level college paleontology lab.

GEOPAths GO Jamaica is an NSF-supported program to introduce students to the geosciences by working on conservation projects with communities in Jamaica. Undergrad and grad students from the US and Jamaica collaborate with researchers and conservation experts to solve environmental problems.
Hey Everyone, this is the last week to apply for GEOPAths GO Jamaica www.jsg.utexas.edu/geopathsgoja...! This is the last year, so be sure to have interested students sign up!
I should mention that I don't have external support to send fancy versions out for free this time, but the games are pretty cheap.
Things are pretty awful in the US right now, so I am trying to channel my nervous energy into creative and educational things...
So I'm designing a new geoscience education game for my freshman class. It's a quick play card game about the geological timescale... Anyone want to play this semester?
Super cool! Well, feel free to pass my info along to those working on the stuff if they want to chat!
Haha, sorry to add to the complexity... I'd love to hear more about those modern samples (wrinkles or Beggiatoa?)
Yay! Man, my students get vicious... Board games bring out something primal in some of them 😜 and it's never the ones you expect!
So this happened... ❤️
Thank you so much to all the wonderful students, colleagues, and mentors, I would be lost without you all and the science wouldn't be anywhere near as fun! 💕
Last day of #gsaconnects2025, but there are lots of great posters and talks by our @txgeosciences.bsky.social team and Jamaican collaborators 🇯🇲
#gsaconnects2025 people, go check out some cool posters and talks this afternoon! Gabriel and Wilson both have cool posters incorporatibg machine learning with forams or ooids... I'll also be giving my talk about ooids and acidification this afternoon! @txgeosciences.bsky.social
If you're at GSA Connects today there are going to be some great talks & posters given by current & graduated @txgeosciences.bsky.social mentees, check them out!

Awesome, thank you!
Mass extinction/Paleozoic friends... I have some folks in my Extinction class eager to read about Paleozoic biotic crises, so what's your favorite paper/papers about these events? Both new/exciting and classic/seminal work in the field would be appreciated. Self promotion welcome 😜.
See Drew Muscente's work in 2018 and 2020 using network analysis!
Yes, she was super quick (I did email the "contact us" thing and didn't just complain here 😜)
