When, why, and how did aesthetics seemingly replace (sub)culture? It feels like the turnover happened over the course of only a few years and that it has had a profound effect on people, especially young people.

Where I live, in Fort Collins, CO, the city commissions artists to paint them. They’re wildly varied and often very fun. One near my house is covered in chickens.
Tried it, did not have a positive experience on the instances I checked out, left.
I think I like it more than my HOA though.

Hey musicians! I'm conducting some research about how people perform and produce music and what role music plays in your life. It would be very helpful to me if you'd fill out my (anonymous) survey. Once the results are in, I'll be writing a blog post about them.

The decline in the general quality of the grammar in published writing is astounding to me. It may seem like a trivial thing, though I am afraid it is actually a litmus test for the overall quality of education. Obviously education doesn’t equal goodness, but it is difficult to progress without it.
This is so gross.
We were in RMNP at Bear/Nymph/Dream Lake and the snowpack was low (obviously) and melting off like a river by the afternoon. Hiking in a t-shirt and long pants was downright hot in all but the windiest and most exposed parts of the trails.
I don’t think we’re even ready to live on Earth. We’ve done such a catastrophically poor job of stewarding this planet that I cannot fathom why there are people who think it’s a good idea to try to expand outward to an even less hospitable planet that would require even greater care and stewardship.

Took the kids out for a hike in Rocky Mountain National Park yesterday. Absolutely beautiful, even despite the record-setting drought and frighteningly low snow pack.
Happy pi day. I hope yours is irrationally good.
Happy International Women's Day to all you amazing ladies out there. I hop you enjoy your

23 hours of celebration.
It's been a long time coming, but here's the sixth and final blog post in my "Mixing Is A Three-Legged Stool" series on how to mix music. I hope this series has proved helpful to you!

@maphramusic.bsky.social Hey there! Hope you are well. Do you have an email you’re willing to share (or email me)? I’m interested in discussing hiring you for a project. Thank you!
Today, I forgot the word “pharmacy” and the best I could do was “medicine grocery store.”
Tough question. I’d like to say I’d be gone in a heartbeat, as I’m sure it’s a net negative. But I think that answer is contingent on too many other things.
Realistically, social media has become a pipeline to ground level facts (and also disinformation), entertainment, marketing, and “connection.”
It would sure be nice if my body met my aspirations (high) for it with the level of effort I want to apply (low) to it.

Beautiful as this weather is, it’s absolutely bizarre and psychologically uncomfortable. It’s been ~20° above average all winter. Nearly no snow, and from what I understand, very little in the mountains, either.

The Cat Mansion’s renovation is complete with a new desk in place. The new setup is dramatically more ergonomic and gives back some room space. I have availability for mixing and mastering jobs as early as next week, plus some tracking time available.

Are you making choices that set you up to be an ancestor remembered over generations or just a ghost that haunts the future?
The world needs ancestors, not specters remembered mostly as cautionary tales, or even worse, lost entirely to the years.
Doomerism of any variety is never the right call. All trajectories can be bent or broken, all courses affected (even if modestly). Doomerism is just accelerationism wearing an emo band shirt. Arguments for the inevitability of anything are psyops, often unwittingly perpetuated by those they target.
Teaching kids the difference between facts and opinions, and then between valid (I prefer X…) and invalid (I believe the year is 1926) opinions is so hard (+important). I can’t count the times that my 10 year old has said the most insane thing ever only to follow it up with “well that’s my opinion.”
Good morning, friends. I've just published the penultimate blog post in my series on mixing. This series is aimed at novice to intermediate folks interested in making better songs on their own. This post is about using timbre to polish your mixes.

I've published another blog post in my series on mixing. This one is about using space like a pro in your mixes and covers some ground I bet a lot of people don't know. Here's a link. As always, hope it's useful to you in your music making journey!

Happy new year! May we all make 2026 what we hope it can be.

Update: it’s “Antiphonal Noel.”
I ran sound for my kid’s school choir, recorded their performance, polished it up, and sent it back to the music teacher. My son insists one of the songs is called “A Tiffany Christmas,” but I’m not so sure. I suspect something about “epiphany” but the phrase is so common Google doesn’t help.
