Not sure how I feel about this one. The timeline jumps around a lot and because of this, there were moments where I didn’t really know what was going on. The ending also left me with a lot of unanswered questions.
I wanted to like it more than I did.
I’ve always loved Norval Morriseau’s paintings and I recently learned that he wrote this book about Ojibway legends. It’s fantastic and his illustrations are amazing. I wish I could find an original copy…

Hiked to one of my favourite lakes this morning and was greeted by two black bears! There’s always something special when I see bears in the wild. And, don’t worry, I was far enough away from them…I have a really good telephoto lens! 😂
Visiting mom for the weekend. There’s always a huge used book sale here the first weekend of May. I didn’t want to buy any books. I failed.

Spent the week hiking along the shore of Lake Superior - from rocky cliffs to sandy beaches. The great thing about going this time of year is I had the trails all to myself!

This is one of those books (there are too many) that have been on my TBR for a long time. I’m happy to say I finally finished it and really enjoyed it.

Sunday morning hike. The spring runoff is spectacular, and I saw my first loon of the year!

Hiked to my favourite cabin today. Had one last fire, just because.
lol. They tried!
A sign of spring
This book has been on my TBR for far too long!
I’m 300 pages in so far and haven’t noticed anything. Although French is my second language, so when I read the original a few years ago it was at a slower pace. This translation is really and it flows easily.
Diving into one of my favourites. I first read an abridged version in English and fell absolutely in love with it. I read the original version in French (4 books!) a few years ago. Now, I’m tackling all 1300 pages of the full English translation.

We stopped at the @mcmichaelgallery.bsky.social and saw Clarence Gagnon’s illustrations for the book Maria Chapdelaine. I didn’t know much about Gagnon’s work, but after seeing the illustrations and then looking at them again in this book, I’m a convert!

I couldn’t put this one down. I think I enjoyed it more than the first book (Moon of the Crusted Snow). Even tho it takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, there’s a lot we can take away from it.

You know that feeling when a book comes to you a the right moment? This book did just that and was exactly what I needed! I was feeling down and #brucevilanch helped me a lot. I haven’t laughed this much from a book in a long time! Now I can go back to reading depressing things. 😂 📚

Probably shouldn’t have read this in the mental state I was in this weekend, but I think I handled it pretty well.
I love how the book brings in a lot of characters that we already know and plants some seeds of things to come. I can’t say any more…spoilers! Read it!!

When you think of Impressionism, you don’t naturally think of Quebec and the St. Lawrence River. We went to this exhibition a few months ago at the @mcmichaelgallery.bsky.social and absolutely loved it!

I need to get some Doctor Who books!
It feels wrong to say that I really enjoyed this book. It’s incredibly researched and offers a great mix of both personal and national histories. An absolutely heartbreaking history of the genocide perpetuated by the Canadian government and the church. It should be read far and wide!

Made a friend on my hike this morning

Friends. Frenemies. Booze. And a birthday party gone off the rails.
We saw the Broadway revival in 2018 and still enjoy it today.

Embracing winter. Took a road trip up north to do some snowshoeing.

I’ve been reading a lot of art books this year. This is the second book I’ve read (so far) on The Group of Seven and Tom Thomson.
One of my goals for this year is to track down and visit some of the exact locations they planted and see what they look like today.
