[Beyond] Spoils – Brain Damage Cincinnati's Spoils are a new band for me but the alt rock quartet have been releasing music since 2022 (according to Bandcamp). I learned of the band through a post on New Commute and I'm so glad I did. From beginning to end, their new album titled Mile Wide Inch Deep is pure joy. The track I gravitated to the most was Brain Damage; I am obsessed with the melodies that make up the chorus, in addition to it's overall arrangement and heartbreaking lyrics.

Serendipity's sound is familiar to my ears; I'm taken back to 2008-2010 with all-female groups like Vivian Girls & Grass Widow with some La Sera thrown in (ok, I'm probably reminded the most by anything Katy Goodman had produced during this era).

With cost of living sky high everywhere, the rich seemingly getting richer overnight, while immigrants, low-income folks trying to get by and those in desperate need of assistance to live are being portrayed as "the problem" by these scum bags, this song is a punch in the face to all those causing so many of societies issues. Notes is a lengthy track at 5 minutes but the composition is pure magic and a joy to listen to. I could have the song on repeat for hours and hours on end. The track starts off by pairing thundering bass synths with Linker's excellent vocals before the rest of the arrangement kicks in.
