Co-creation of research agendas could strengthen policy research engagement wonkhe.com/blogs/co-cre...
Looks v interesting. Really important, in my view, that we keep developing subject-specific thinking around evidence-informed practice.
As publication day approaches, a for @paulclinepsy.bsky.social and I to give thanks to all of the fabulous educators and researchers whose work has inspired, informed and shaped the book

The background image shows a key labelled ‘higher education’ next to a graduation cap. This is overlaid with the ‘Educational Review’ journal title at the top. In the middle is the article title and author name(s): ‘A validated toolkit for access and participation evaluation (TAPE)’ by Matt Horton, Thomas Perry & Tracy Whatmore. The words “Open Access” appear in a red circle.
Matt Horton, @twperry1.bsky.social, & Tracy Whatmore offer a validated Toolkit for Access and Participation Evaluation (TAPE). Learn how it can improve higher education access for under-represented groups 🗝️🎓

💡 Why use TAPE?
- Free to use
- Accurately measures the impact of WP activities on pupil AABs
- The first toolkit to demonstrate predictive validity
- Provides a meaningful baseline to understand pupils’ strengths and barriers
- Supports targeted, preventative interventions
3/5
🧪 How was TAPE validated?
Using data from over 4,400 pupils (Years 9–13), we conducted validation tests. TAPE showed strong:
- Content validity
- Face validity
- Test-retest reliability
- Predictive validity (e.g., pupils with low AAB scores less likely to progress to HE)

🔍 What is TAPE?
TAPE offers a robust measure of:
✔️Higher Education expectations, knowledge amd attitudes
✔️Self-efficacy
✔️Academic motivation
(Collectively known as AABs: Attitudes, Aspirations, and Behaviours)
In more detail... 1/5
Our paper includes a detailed comparison with previous approaches (including the ASQ) and outlines how TAPE builds on this work to offer a stronger validated impact measurement.
New paper validating the Toolkit for Access and Participation Evaluation (TAPE) now out! May be of interest to those working in widening participation and HE evaluation:

I've put it as %female on this. The male %is very close to the reverse (100-female%). I'll have to report some of the things I'm looking at both ways.
There's this which shows gender gap from teachers to leaders. I'm working on this atm. I'll have the (2023-24) data point soon. I've also figures for workforce exit by age. I've not got the gender breakdown out of my ons secure space yet but will have v soon.
