This has been my experience as well. Each time I point out the issues I am told the equivalent of “but it works on my machine”.

Calling Bullsh*t Fleet admiral chaos reporting for duty

After two years of building solutions that use LLMs heavily I could not keep my mouth shut any more. Why? Because we are being fed fan fiction dressed up as an inevitable future on a daily basis.

So I decided to put some words on a page.

Yes!!! This is excellent news!

Thanks for the link @robbowley.net ! This looks very interesting. I have tons of respect for Yann Lecun, he seems one of the very few experts not having LLM Rabies

Agreed. I would also love to see the UK pull its head out of its backside and move closer to our largest trading block which has always been the EU.

As you say, no need to go jumping off the cliff and playing along with a trade war. Or at least take the time to think it all through.

THANK YOU!!! I posted on LinkedIn this morning about exactly why this is wrong and then of course the goal posts were shifted in the comments to "But a manager hiring engineers do not care or review the code". I weep every day seeing these arguments being made 🤦

100% this! I keep getting people telling me that LLMs can reason like humans and can think. This from very accomplished tech professionals. I am starting to fear that the cool-aid have been gulped down by way too many. What is good to help the human understand is even better for the AI.

Forget the hype, focus on the engineering and facts.

In the end it is a different way of engineering and there is a massive amount of new areas to get familiar with and build competency in. It is a new challenge, which looks different to the old challenge, but damn interesting to work in. It is magical and frustrating in equal measures.

The most interesting divide I see in GenAI today is the difference in commentary between those who build with GenAI assistance and those that build GenAI based products. When you know how the GenAI application is made you realise that Context is king and your data engineering must change.

Why in the name of all that is sweet and holy can we not just admit this mistake and move closer to our biggest trading partners and cultural partners in the world?!! It baffles me.

It is the three singles they have. More are added as they are mastered and released.

If I hear another tech professional say "reasoning model" or insinuate that LLMs can reason then I am going to scream my head off!! What is wrong with tech people? How many times does it need to be pointed out that these things cannot "think" or "reason"?!! Can your bubble sort algorithm reason?!!

Looks like there were some changes by the Google Product team and this has been happening to everyone that is on PAYG. Not a pretty sight at all

Is anyone else having issues with Google Cloud's Vertex API giving 429 errors for their Gemini Flash 002 models?

I am being stonewalled on questions of capacity and get the feeling that Google is not able to serve demand to PAYG users.

It absolutely sucks.

That was my experience when I lived in Germany. We had to order from Apple and pay the price. :(

I've spent the last two years scouring all available resources on RLHF specifically and post training broadly. Today, with the help of a totally cracked team, we bring you the fruits of that labor — Tülu 3, an entirely open frontier model post training recipe. We beat Llama 3.1 Instruct.

No problem at all. I am of the opinion that "every little bit helps" when making it more difficult for people to encrouch on our privacy.

Absolutely love this. Very nice write up and something that I agree with. Thank you @principalengineer.com

Thank you for writing this. I found it insightful. I especially agree with the part about the API for a frontend app not being a fit for most 3rd party apps or systems integrations.
