Delighted to share our latest collaborative research paper with my long term collaborators Nigel Greig and W. Douglas Figg showing Thalidomide-like monoterpenoid analogues, unlike classic IMiDs, lack cereblon binding and they have anti-angiogenesis actions.

ZPA experiment…. Carried out In chick limb buds where graft the ZPA from a donor limb into the anterior of a host limb bud which induces a mirror image handplate! 6-8 digits instead of 3-4. Amazing! 50th anniversary of this amazing discovery/observation is in 2026…..
The journalist who broke the Thalidomide story in the USA in 1962 sadly died today. Amazing life and journalist. #thalidomide

Love this pic from 2008 in Madrid. Some legends of developmental biology…. John Fallon, Lewis Wolpert, Marion Ros and Lee Niswander. Happy memories and miss John and Lewis so much.

However Thalidomide alters yolk sac vasculature despite the absence of detectable Cereblon complex gene expression. Suggesting thalidomides antiangiogenic action may be independent of Cereblon.
Delighted to share our latest research publication. “Cereblon E3 Ligase Complex genes are expressed in tissues sensitive to thalidomide in chicken and zebrafish embryos but are unchanged following thalidomide exposure”
