Honoured to have attended the Canadian premiere of Dear Lara. We really need to have a showing at UofT. www.dearlara.film

My favourite sentence of the week thus far: "Maybe 20 years from now, when we’re all covered in dirt and hiding from the robots who gained sentience and went berserk, we’ll look back on the partnership between Starbucks and The Devil Wears Prada 2 as a golden age of human-led decision making."

Ride the Loop, Close the Gaps! Today was another ride organized by TCBC to publicize the potential of a 78 km loop of safe bike trails around the city, and also drawing attention to the gaps in the route. There was an earlier edition of the ride last November that looked at the southern portion of the loop. The weather forecast for today was pretty decent, and we had quite a large crowd at the start point which was Fix Coffee and Bikes at the Well.

Ontario buys used $28.9M private jet for Doug Ford: sources A senior official confirmed that the province this week took possession of a 2016 Bombardier Challenger 650 executive jet.

"While the Ontario government’s smaller Challenger would be able to land at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport on the island once the runway is extended, the plan is for it to fly out of Pearson." www.thestar.com/politics/pro...

Opinion | The Affordable Car Is Dead. What Happened? This is how cars got so ridiculously, forbiddingly expensive.

The sequence of photos showing the evolution of the Honda Civic is particularly illustrative of this trend.

High Park Movement Strategy Implementation Back in 2023, the city outlined changes in High Park that would change the circulation of motor vehicles, as well as reducing the amount of parking available. Those changes were implemented over the next year or two on a temporary basis with quick build materials (mainly plastic bollards). At the same time, City Council voted to close the park to cars on weekends and holidays.

Short sleeve weather After a long day at work, I just had to go out for a ride since it was about 18°C. I wore a short sleeve jersey for the first time this season. Since my other bike is still in zwiftland at the moment, I was riding the Tamarack. It's always a pleasure to rediscover what a smooth ride this is.

Early season ride with TBN I thought that the weather looked decent for this Sunday, so I posted a ride on the TBN website: a 38 km loop around Etobicoke. The weather turned out to be even better than expected. Nine of us were at the start point at Etienne Brulé. Lance joined us just after the picture was taken. And we're off. Walking our bikes across the Humber.

UofT students put a giant iron ring on the smokestack of the thermal plant. The dean was not pleased as he was told that engineering would have to pay for the removal.

When Vancouver mandates all electric water heaters, I don't think they understand thermodynamics: "Starting January 1, 2027, when a water heater needs replacing in existing one- to three-storey single family homes and duplexes, it must be replaced with a model that is at least 100% efficient."

I was hoping for a movie remotely as good as the Martian, but Project Hail Mary wasn't it. On the other hand, if you want a buddy movie with some of the trappings of science fiction (more fiction than science) then go have a good time.

Toronto Bike Show 2026 Just a few pictures from the Toronto Bike Show. As others have indicated, the show has really gotten less interesting over the years, and comparatively few dealers show up to sell off old stock. It was really noticeable that any space vacated by regular bike dealers was taken up by e-bike vendors. Not much bike parking provided. Amego is a well established e-bike dealer that sells a full range, including quality prodeucts from Europe.
