We made six recommendations for improving e-scooter safety in Canberra, including clearer communication of rules and infrastructure improvements.

Thanks to Assoc Prof Tricia Brown and Mr Anton Julius Fichtenmaier for their work on this project, too!

- Apparent speeding was more common among those riding private e-scooters.

- E-scooters serve dual purposes - both practical transportation and recreational enjoyment

- Risk factors include low perceived risk, social influences, and lack of understanding of laws

We found:

- Not wearing a helmet was very common (64% among riders of shared e-scooters and 31% for private e-scooter riders).
- More riders on shared e-scooters (compared with private e-scooter riders) had multiple passengers and were observed as having a potential conflict with a motorist
