I just caught myself wondering what Douglas Adams and Arthur C. Clark (authors) would think about the technological world we're experiencing right now.

Lapel microphone.
*Lapel* - that's the key word.
That's where it's *designed* to be used. Not in your fucking hand!

Just a little rant at all the content creators who have decided to hold their lapel mic and talk into it.

Fucking shits me to tears.

(end rant)

I'm in the same boat. I'm going to convert my old personal PC to Linux (it's Win 10 and can't be upgraded to 11). Then I'm going to experiment with setting it up for .NET development and eventually moving all my work to it too.

I'm completely fed up with Microsoft too.

I have to admit I felt a tug at the heartstrings watching the reentry and recovery.

The professionalism and dedication by all involved in this mission is as a stark contrast to tech bro culture and the crap output we all suffer from.

When you look at his film career, Danny Glover does not appear to have aged so well all along the way.
I feel better at 45 than he looked when he spoke his iconic "I'm too old for this shit" line.
But the man is a legend, so who cares.
And he's still going, so who care [again].

Marriage to my wife of 10+ years is hugging, kissing and cuddling every day.
Waiting for her to walk through the door.
Worshiping her and her body, whatever that is - because I know her.

Take off the ring - no difference.

Defending my wife - I'll give my life without a second thought.

I came to the same conclusion, then realised the title said "at 35", which I presume means an additional 17 years of accumulation post the 12 years of education. Not sure what the calculations are for that, but presumably this is where it jumps from 1.5 to 4.5?

Is that good?

I'm absolutely loving these episodes! I wasn't sure initially "because CES" - but I should have had faith in you and the people, conversations, and style are really engaging.

I already can't wait for next year if you do it again.

What the actual fuck is going on at Microsoft nowadays with their AI push?! This is getting ridiculous.

That's very cool! 😊

"a startup CTO": without telling us who are they and what is their background, that means... what?

I've been on tools for 20+ years. I wish GenAI is as good as promised, but my conclusion hasn't changed: all I'm seeing is an affirmation of how much people buy into the hype, especially at C-level.

The fun thing about watching the movie 2001 in 2025 is you realize HAL is just an LLM and so *obviously* it’s going to murder its crewmembers every few flights due to malformed JSON.

There's a meme I keep seeing about why women live longer than men - and you see the men doing potentially fatal activities.

What you don't see is men losing their minds with worry when their wife does something seemingly innocent (i.e. cycling with their bicycle kickstand down) and not caring.

What the fuck is wrong with people on social media who post their stream of conscious thought without ever giving a context?

And it always seems to be related to some sports game, or "going about my daily life".

And this is otherwise "interesting" people that I follow.

Again - WTF?!

I find the idea that you need to know “how to use” AI tools really funny, as if it isn’t incredibly easy to type in prompts and the marketing these tools is that literally anyone can do it

Why haven't we always been asking for this on diffs from developers who write their own code?

If AI is so smart it's taking developer jobs and we need this from it, then surely we've needed it even more from the people whose jobs are being taken?

Go enjoy your time off, Ed. You've well and truly earned it this year.
Thanks for all your incredible work - so many of us really appreciate you for it.
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

To quote @punkey.org - this is all just nerds masturbating.

Watching that put a smile on my dial. Really well done, Chris. 👏

The actual secret to why I know stuff is that I ask a question any time I don’t understand literally anything. I don’t care how simple it is. Anybody who makes fun of you for asking a simple question likely doesn’t know the answer either

This whole thread - including a lot of the conversation - has me shaking my head in wonder... as a CTO and start-up co-founder.

It's no wonder the software industry is a fucking shit show.

I really don't want to have to switch to Linux, but it's never had a more successful ad campaign than current Windows.
