Way to go, John! Congrats.

You see... it's a six-hundred page, fictional account, of a writer... surprisingly similar to me, who traps the person who rejected his work in a room and subjected them to episodes of Barney and Friends, Teletubbies, and HR Pufnstuf, twenty-four hours a day at max volume.

Just a little midweek writers' humor...
You want to GUARANTEE that I will buy a book, even though I have no clue what it is about?
Try to ban it!
Suddenly I will read it just to find out why you don't want me to.

I will agree. I enjoyed your work.
I think the key is to be natural, don't force it. Then the work has more flow.
I think people would notice... but as fast as things move these days and as short as many people's attention span is, the sense of loss would not be long. Before long there would be another distraction in place, filling that void you left. :-(
I have seen that a couple of times in my life, and there is something so captivating and mesmerizing about it.
One thing that I cannot wrap my head around is how so many people no longer read. Even people whom I know, at one time, were avid readers, just do not pick up a book anymore.
Why is that?

Not meaning to toot my own horn, but this is why I started my podcast. I wanted to do more to promote and help new writers. And I figured talking about their work, not in a review, was the best way.
I just finished Vigil, by George Saunders.
This is a book that reminds you why you should be reading books. It casts a new light on what an afterlife and the transition into it might be like. In the last two chapters I found myself tearing up.

What the heck happened to BlueSky today? Seems like it took a dump for most of the day.
Cover of George Takei's autobiographical graphic novel They Called Us Enemy showing a line of people entering an internment camp as a young George looks back, breaking the fourth wall.
Friends of the Sacramento Library is offering these free for AAPI month
I have read so much work like this, but this might be the single most painful one because, well, everything is local.
I drive through Florin often (It's now South Sacramento), SF is where my mom lives, his dad was my age when
What about the re-coffee? Lots and lots of re-coffee! ;-)
Red Shirts is still one of my favorite works. Only thing more fun than reading it is trying to explain it to someone who has not.
For writers who are presently only on eBook, what is the general opinion of GumRoad? Is it worth the effort?

The ICR Booktalk episode for April will air on the 16th, this month... Because the 15th is evil and I did not want to taint my positive vibes, man.

I would do this individually, but there has been too many lately. To all the people that recently followed me here, Thank You. I truly appreciate it.
It happens. What annoys me is when I try so very hard to keep things non-political... unless that is the topic of a book that we are discussing, and then only in context... and someone starts spewing politics. Ya ask them to stop and it becomes a fight. :-\
I don’t mind either… But good Lord, I wish I could get my old IBM selectric 2 keyboard back. That thing had that nice mechanical click, and was heavy enough to act as a weapon if needed.
I am about to send mine off on a Viking Funeral. Bought a nice Microsoft kb and mouse combo in 2020, and it’s dying on me!!!
Beautiful
There are times and genres where discussions of sex and sexuality are just not important, in spite of how certain groups feel. Having read your book, I can see no way it would advance the story or characters. It’s fine as is!
You and I both, brother! WTF is happening? 🤣
Talk to me in a couple months when I get "Ink, Coffee, and Regrets: After Dark" rolling and I would like to discuss your book and see if I can get you some traffic.
Got my copy of Vigil by George Saunders. Really looking forward to reading it. Would love to get it autographed.

I always felt bad and vaguely guilty that I would mistake Karen Allen and Margot Kidder for one another.
