At @fosdem.org this weekend?
We’ll be presenting a talk on how the landscape for learning to code has changed and what that means for creative coding. Can we build tools that preserve learner agency, curiosity, and critical thinking?
Come find us. We'd love to chat!

The Processing Community Survey 2025 is live! (Yes, we know it's 2026 but there were delays 😅)
If you use Processing in any way, we’d love your input. It helps us understand what works and what needs attention.
Take the survey: survey.processing.org 💙
Screenshot showing a list of new contributors to the Processing 4.4.5 release, each with a link to their first pull request. Usernames listed include @marioguzzzman, @thisizaro, @ovaline, @jd-boyd, @Vaivaswat2244, @JSdCool, @AhmedMagedC, @pnngocdoan, @joshgiesbrecht, @ThexXTURBOXx, @jdebou, @toniab, and @aj-m. Below the list is a link to the full changelog and a row of contributor avatars, with names like SableRaf and jd-boyd among others.
The upcoming 4.4.5 release of Processing includes as many new contributors as all the releases since 4.3.1 combined 🥳
We’ve been working hard to lower the barrier to entry, so seeing this many new folks jump in is really encouraging and honestly makes us a bit emotional. Thank you 💙
I found a way to make transparent windows in @processing.org and couldn’t think of anything smarter to build 🐄💥 #builtWithProcessing

A photograph of an early version of the Processing (then styled as "Proce55ing") development environment running on a Mac desktop interface. The window displays a sketch with simple code using void setup() and void loop() functions, drawing a series of diagonal lines. Next to the editor is a small output window showing the visual result of the code. In the background, a Finder window is open, showing the directory contents of the "processing-0024" folder, including subfolders like "fonts", "lib", "reference" and "sketchbook." This image dates from April 2002 and captures an early stage in the development of Processing.
Rare, old Proce55ing photo from April 2002. Yikes!
A macOS installation window for Processing, showing a blue Processing.app icon on the left and an Applications folder on the right, with an arrow between them indicating the app should be dragged into the folder. The background is blue with a grid pattern, and there are playful, blue geometric characters with eyes in the corners of the window.

Downloaded Processing.org again. Made this little tool for making shapes with hexagonal symmetry.
It's such a simple thing, but all the apps I've used only have square, reflectional, and rotational symmetry.
Computer code to generate a Penrose Triangle and some Processing response about not being able to save this in a folder which is already open.
Tried making a Penrose Triangle and I got this.

A promotional graphic for the exhibition "Compositions in Code: The Art of Processing and p5.js" at the Museum of the Moving Image (MoMI), opening on March 6, 2025. The background features a generative art-style digital landscape with jagged, wireframe-like mountains in shades of blue and purple against a bright pink sky. The exhibition title appears in large white text at the top, with the subtitle "The Art of Processing and p5.js" in smaller font below. The names of featured artists—Marius Watz / Aleksandra Jovanić, LIA / Sarah Ridgley, and Robert Hodgin / Melissa Wiederrecht—are centered in white text. At the bottom, logos for MoMI, Tezos, and the Processing Foundation indicate the event’s co-presenters.

After labouring three days over one line of code, I have learned that it is a good idea to just ask people in a forum after you've done some good research and are still stuck. Thank you so much @processing.org forum.

@processing.org is the coolest ever, part of the reason I like programming so much is because of the hours I spent playing around with the java processing environment and then p5.js, absolutely amazing
Very happy to announce that I have rediscovered Processing.
For some of my needs it helps me to escape the configuration hell of Jupyter Notebooks.
