There’s so many cattle trucks on the road, shifting cattle away from parts of the New England region, it’s really dry there. Lots of cattle also on the roadsides, not going anywhere, just eating what grass is left, being watched over by very capable and good doggos.

They’re also confused about the brouhaha about the Gwydir Wetlands, saying before Copeton Dam was built it naturally dried out. I don’t know if this is true or not, I suspect neither do most locals, the dam’s been there since 1973 and the farms around the wetlands are now mostly irrigated cotton so?

The general consensus out west is that the NSW government rushed new firearms laws without consultation. They don’t like Minns anyway but now they’re really pissed at him. Possibly resulting in another NSW upper house seat going to ON?

Be prepared for higher costs at the supermarket due to drought and high fuel and fertiliser costs

Observations from my visit to north western NSW this week: It’s really really dry or there. Farmers saying they won’t plant winter crops unless there’s heaps of rain before mid-May. Diesel and fertiliser are too expensive to waste to bet on rain post-sowing; they’re happy to rest the soil this year.

Most times a progressive Indy or Green is optimal. But in some cases tactical voting, and tactical election funding in those seats might mean donating and voting for Labor, as was the case in Duttons seat. I live in NSW and I still chipped in to kick Dutton out 😂
