Black children eight times more likely to be strip searched by police - report A new report says while the number of strip searches has decreased, ethnic disparities in their use persist.

This is abhorrent and utterly unacceptable.

@rcpch.bsky.social - do we have a response to this? I would absolutely expect my College to call this out for what it is: systematic discrimination of timetable children based on their ethnicity.

I think I approach things differently; I’m a paediatrician and if I ask my patients if someone has hurt them I’ll get a long list of the kids at school who’ve pinched or shoved them!I’m used to asking my questions very carefully to make sure I catch the situations I need to.

I love Medsky for this.

I think asking if someone hurt them might give you answers you don’t expect. “Hurting” can be consensual.

Maybe “I’ve previously looked after someone who had a similar problem, and that item was placed without their consent. If that feels relevant for you, or you want our help, I’m here” ?

It’s not cheeky. I think as a professional courtesy most consultants would do this without batting an eyelid.

I’m saying this as a senior reg - if I’d seen a child of a medical family and they felt there were unanswered qs, I wouldn’t feel put out. As a soon-to-be-consultant I’d be happy to do it.

I personally wouldn’t buy hp stuff, but some people are going to anyway.

The wastage of natural resources wouldn’t sit right with me.

My preference would be to sell and then donate the money to a trans supporting charity.

Fully accept that might not feel right for everyone.

I could have told them that for a significantly lower fee.

It is incredible that they still manage to shock me with every new low.

We simply cannot allow this party to be in power.

This has restored my faith. I hadn’t found any good news stories anywhere yet today.

Finally! If I’m peckish at a concert I can have an approved snack!

When someone tells you who they are, believe them.

He repeatedly tells us what kind of person he is. It’s the most consistent thing about him.

NEW: This new report, from BBC, is the best takedown of the insanity of Trump you will see anywhere.

Calm, coherent and repeating only Trump’s own words. Devastating.

Brilliant work once again from Roz Atkins.

How is 4 weeks enough time to learn a job??

I’m nearly 3m into my PICU post, and granted I work far, far fewer hours than that, but i can’t imagine being able to say “yes. I’ve had enough training now thank you”.

Do they get more blocks later?

Also, I had a very tough week recently and towards the end of one day I met a teen who told me they liked my glasses because they were cool. Just as I was getting all big in my boots the teen made a comment along the lines of my being terribly old 🤣 the kids keep me real.

Honestly, it’s a privilege. I’ve recently changed rotations and now looking after some very unwell young people, which can be emotionally very challenging, but I wouldn’t do anything else. I love my job and I love seeing the children I’ve looked after a few years down the line. It’s the best.

Families understandably think “but you’ve always managed to fix things before, why not now” and adapting the paper boat story can be really helpful as another way of getting things across.
