Five theatre professionals champion underrated Canadian plays Across the country, second productions are rare, especially for shows that premiered pre-pandemic. These plays deserve another chance.

I was recently interviewed about one Canadian play that had a first production, that I most felt deserved another production. My pick was BRANTWOOD by Mitchell Cushman & Julie Tepperman, Bram Gielen, Anika Johnson & Britta Johnson. Here’s hoping!

MARATHON MACBETH Is this a durational theatre piece I see before me?!On Sunday April 12, Shakespeare in the Ruff will stage a one-day-only MARATHON MACBETH. Directed by Kwaku Okyere, and staged with the generous support of Video Cabaret, Ruff’s 2026 Winter Tale event is a durational theatrical experiment-slash-fundraiser in support of The Garden Initiative, our new pilot program that offers arts education to teen parents. Dora-winners Christine Horne and Dan Mousseau will perform a condensed version of the Scottish play’s infamous marriage over… and over… and over again. The more money Ruff raises, the longer the actors will go! Where and when will this whacky experiment happen?Video Cabaret in Leslieville (10 Busy Street, Toronto). The performance will start at 1:30pm on April 12, and run for a minimum of two hours. How will donations affect the performance? With every $500 we raise, we’ll add another 30 minutes to the performance, up to a maximum of five additional hours.  What happens if we exceed our goal?Past the $5000 mark, we’ll start to introduce *surprise elements* into the performance, to make things even more ridiculous for our two stars. Can I come watch? The performance on April 12 will be open to the public and FREE to attend. You’re welcome to drop in anytime, and come and go throughout the event. Follow us on Instagram @shakespeareruff for updates on just how long our dynamic duo will spend in their Mackers mobius strip. Questions about MARATHON MACBETH or The Garden Initiative?Email us at info@shakespeareintheruff.com.

Final opportunity to contribute to Shakespeare in the Ruff’s fundraiser Marathon Macbeth performed by Christine Horne & Dan Mousseau. Currently close to 4-1/2 hours but could go longer with further donations. Then drop in to VideoCabaret on Sun Apr 12 from 1:30pm until…

Saw Cyrano at CAA Theatre last night. Can't remember the last time I have LOVED every show playing at Mirvish as much as I love these three shows right now: Cyrano, Shucked and & Juliet. If there's a ticket available to ANY of these shows that you can grab, they are truly all really terrific shows!
