Diffusion MRI (dMRI) is a powerful tool to study white matter maturation. In our new preprint, we process and distribute a new resource of >24,000 ABCD dMRI scans using open source tools! We then evaluate how methods shape inferences about development.

100% would recommend working with @njudd.com and @rogierk.bsky.social!
Some of the favourite times of my PhD have been brainstorming with Nick about our projects. Importantly for a supervisor, he never made me feel dumb or any hierarchy.
Also amazing opportunity to work at @dondersinst.bsky.social 🧠

The science community is letting Palestine and the wider Arab community down At a neurodevelopment conference I recently attended, where the focus is child health and development, I was astounded that not one voice…

No journal will take this commentary I wrote In October so fuck it, here it is on medium.

I've used Lavaan almost every (work)day for 15 years, but this open source labour of love has never received proper institutional support. I'm delighted to be a small part of an 1.5M OpenScienceNL award, led by Jorgensen, to completely revamp and futureproof Lavaan www.openscience.nl/en/news/45-p...

Hybrid or multi-hubs are good future options for conferences to be more sustainable but also more accessible in terms of funds, visa and dependants at home.
See this amazing article from the sea-sig: apertureneuro.org/article/8767...

I think the responsibility lies both at the individual level: more academics should choose the train or select conferences more mindfully of their footprint.
But universities, and particularly conferences, should adapt their systems.

Taking the plane would have cost less money and taken a few hours only. It is a better solution for a lot of people that do not have the time or funds to go on these slower trips. I am very lucky being in Europe with such a good train system and being in a lab that supports this.

I divided the trip over two days, allowing me to also visit Chester on my way to Dublin and see a musical in London on my way back.

My travel to and from Dublin have emitted 72kg of CO2 while a plane trip between the Netherlands and Dublin (and back) emits 500kg of CO2.

Choosing to go by train/ferry to #Flux2025 I emitted SEVEN times less C02 compared to a plane trip.

Air travel is one of the largest contributors to the carbon footprint of research. Researchers, universities and conferences have the responsabilities to create more sustainable alternatives.

I had such a blast presenting the last project of my PhD for a flash talk and a poster at #Flux2025

Grey and white matter are not two separate tissues and we found that adversity is associated significantly differently with grey and white matter measures showing the importance of looking at both!

I'll be at Flux with a flash talk and a poster (S52) on Saturday!

I'll be presenting the last project of my PhD on how different kinds of adversity predict the development of grey and white matter structure 🧠

New paper by @njudd.com shows that an additional year of education doesn't causally affect telomere length in old age, despite many (theory) accounts arguing otherwise. It's been desk rejected by 13 journals happy to publish small 'positive' telomere studies. Sigh. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Are you an international early career scholar considering spending time in the Netherlands? We likely have capacity to host a Marie Curie Fellow if you are interested. Our lab (lifespancognitivedynamics.com) works on modeling cognitive change in early or later life, at short and long timescales.
