When we say "defund the police," we mean "defund violence." That means ICE, but it also means our local police.

Drug rehabilitation centers, resources to help people find jobs that fit them, affordable healthcare infrastructure to keep people healthy.

Basically zero 911 calls - and NO civilian immigration matters - need to be met with the threat of violence. The money and other resources that arm and staff our police could instead fund targeted programs that address specific needs in a community -

"Good people" get trial by jury and "bad people" get shot in the fucking back in the streets.

The problem is the policing institutions. At best they don't stop these outcomes, at worst they encourage them.

Yeah we can all agree that violence is bad, but it's reeeally built into us that it's kiiinda less bad when "bad people" get violenced, ya know? When you have people who are designated as The People Who Do Violence, those people WILL use less restraint against people that they see as "bad people"

We can ignore the fact that ICE does not have the authority to do law enforcement, because police who DO have that authority ALSO fucking kill people.

We see that when the state authorizes a group of people to use violence, the rule of law and due process suffer.

Renee Good and Alex Pretti probably got your attention because federal goons FUCKING KILLED THEM during an alleged "law enforcement operation"

To anyone who recently decided ICE needs to be abolished:

Welcome! Whether you know it or not, this is the same fight as ACAB, defund the police, and BLM.

All of these movements fight against the same thing: excessive violence from the state targeted at minorities. Let's break it down.

If we stop short of abolishing ICE AND prosecuting Noem, Trump, Miller, and everybody else involved, it will just. Keep. Happening.

"Demoted" is not enough. This is a classic strategy: keep poking and pushing until it goes too far, then walk it back a bit. Once it dies down, get right back at it.

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.
