ahh, thanks for the nudge! Back up - I put some effort into making it (much) faster last week, but don't have it monitored yet.

I just went to see if anyone had built a robot dj arm, saw this instagram post: www.instagram.com/reels/DS4uO6... and now I'm just upset, lol.

omg it's so cool. It has its own Sellafield whitepaper!

A bid at £300 seems entirely reasonable. This is clearly a failed marketing opportunity, since this is clearly just begging to become part of some DJ's stage act. Expert Knob Twiddler, indeed!

Now, imagine if Bluesky went down and never came back up again.

But you log into Blacksky like nothing happened.

You 🫵🏾 are used to your friendships and connections being lost because of a corporation’s actions.

The collective AT Protocol project is to demonstrate otherwise.

Tell a friend.

It's genuinely hard running all this stuff.

Speaking as someone who didn't get especially rich off of Twitter but did a bunch of the groundwork that made it possible for Linda to make many millions... pay your taxes, Linda. It'll be okay, I'm sure you'll survive.

Love it!

This feels very complementary to the panproto lens stuff (which I use in ionosphere.tv: tangled.org/blaine.bsky....).

My sense is that there are two separate concerns, display and comprehension, and they're way more related than they first appear!

That really sucks, sorry to hear they've been poor at crediting your work. I've had similar experiences in the past, and I know how un-fun it is. I hope it gets better. 🫂

Yeah, I should post some. 😅

The icon is really my greatest achievement.

Ugh, my brain is so fried. Not ghostty, fantastty. Which I should remember since I spend 18 hours a day in it 😂

Looks a little like my ghostty thing maybe? GitHub.com/blaine/ghostty - just a bunch of tmux sessions in an organized way, vs a thousand terminal tabs

Dovetail (dovetailworkwear.com) is awesome. My partner has a bunch of their stuff and loves it (she spends a lot of time in the [wood] workshop, in the woods, and the garden and it's great in all three!)

User Intents as Living Data — A Descriptive Meta-Framework A response to Bluesky's User Intents proposal: instead of prescribing a fixed set of intent categories, treat them as living data and use panproto lenses to map between the vocabularies that different...

Not just magic link; we also use OAuth plus discovery. Our first pass just implements google auth (we discover Google-hosted accounts by MX lookup), works for a majority of our users.

6 days ago 1 0 0 0

When they work, they're great (e.g. on a mobile device with on-device touch activation), but are still slower than a zero-auth long-lived refresh token combined with strong device-level security.

6 days ago 0 0 0 0

Depending on browser implementation, where the passkey lives, etc, passkey auth can mean that users need to get another device in order to sign in. It can also be very confusing - which device/mechanism stores the passkey? Passkey loss or failure almost always resorts to email reset, besides.

6 days ago 0 0 1 0

To elaborate slightly: I think passkeys are *actually worse* than oauth identity verification (oidc or atproto), because they necessarily depend on the former. Extra claim: 2FA should live on the primary account, not dependent services (as a rule – exceptions may apply).

Bog-standard Google-based OAuth (mx lookup) has a 100% success rate, and our refresh tokens are sufficiently long-lived that I consider this a solved problem, modulo the atproto account intersection (which we'll handle the same way as our base auth, so I'm not worried).

Passkeys only work as a convenience mechanism, I'm now 100% convinced of this; I have hope that @sgo.to & @thisismissem.social's work on FedCM will make it better/easier, but we also do email-only auth on Roundabout and it works great.
