300 words on the #WIP today. I also fixed a plot issue, re-wrote part of an existing scene, and pondered the measurement of time.

(One reason daily wordcount goals don't work for me is that I often need to pause and do non-word things, and I get discouraged if I have a goal and don't make it.)

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 8104:
Easy reading doesn’t mean easy writing. It takes a lot of practice and expertise to make something seem effortless. (This goes for genre, comedy, kids’ books and lots of other well-crafted books not perceived as “literary.”)

Special submissions call: Democratic Futures | Escape Pod Democracy isn’t a new concept, but its parts and parameters have shifted across the centuries. Cultural changes and technological advancements have impacted how it is perceived and how it functions.

And remember, our "Democratic Futures" special submissions call is open! In short, we're looking for original and reprint science fiction stories relating to the theme of the future of democracy. Submissions run until June 30!

'There are no landmarks in space; one portion of space is exactly like every other portion, so that we cannot tell where we are. We are, as it were, on an unruffied sea, without stars, compass, sounding, wind or tide, and we cannot tell in what direction we are going'

James Clerk Maxwell, 1876

Looking through one of the four windows of the Orion spacecraft, a tiny crescent Earth is illuminated against the blackness of space and grows smaller as the crew journeys closer to the Moon. Part of the window edge is visible; the rest is darkness. [Alt-text slightly revised from ESA/NASA version]
