A dog’s life should never be a “tool” for testing.

This #NationalBeagleDay we are celebrating beagles for who they are - companions and family members. That's why we're calling for a future where they are no longer used in medical research.

⚠️ When “safe in animals” goes terribly wrong…

In a now infamous clinical trial, a drug called TGN1412 was tested in humans at just 1/500th of the dose found safe in animals, hospitalising all six volunteers.

Animals are not reliable stand-ins for humans.

The human brain isn’t just bigger than animal brains, it’s structurally and functionally distinct, and diseases like Alzheimer’s don’t occur naturally in other species.

If we want reproducible, clinically relevant insights, we need to invest in models built on human biology.

Scientists hoped that inserting human genes into mice would lead to better outcomes.

🧬 But adding a few human genes doesn’t make mice human
🧠 Their biology, drug responses and lifespans are still very different
