Incredible to think that 25 years ago today, the two most influential comedies of the 21st century - Freddy Got Fingered and Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles - were released.

Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back to a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

IT SAVES PUBLIC MONEY to house people.

I know I’m encouraging the worst by spending $17 on a one sided Carly Rae Jepsen 7” but the only other RSD I’m getting has Merzbow and Masonna on it so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Zohran Mamdani: "If you are a Mario Kart fan, government is Yoshi and philanthropy is the Golden Mushroom, that edge we need to beat Bowser on the Rainbow Road. To belabor this metaphor even further, Bowser is corporate greed in this scenario."

the BoC VHS promo lead to me introducing a friend to the Geogaddi played backwards concept this weekend, which was a nice listen driving through Colorado. (There's so much backwards masked sound on that lp that it sounds intentional in either direction...) Looking forward to hearing what's next...

Oooh, do you know which letter you got for the bonus cd? apparently you have to buy four to get all of the tracks, I will be checking Soulseek later for the other three instead after my copy arrives.

In October 2016, Vice published an investigative article titled "Afrika Bambaataa Allegedly Molested Young Men for Decades" and reported stories from the alleged victims and witnesses. The article stated the accusers "claim that these accounts of alleged abuse have been common knowledge in the Bronx River community and beyond since the early 1980s, including among many of Bambaataa's closest friends and Zulu soldiers."[49] No charges were brought against Afrika Bambaataa.[50]

On March 2021, in an interview with DJ Vlad, Melle Mel of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five said "everyone knew" about the accusations, calling it "hip hop's best kept secret" but would not respond when asked if he knew specifically.[51] In October 2021 Bambaataa was sued[needs update] by an anonymous man who alleged that between 1991 and 1995, Bambaataa repeatedly sexually abused him when he was a minor, and also trafficked him to other adult men.[52][53]

Uh I recommend looking at his Wikipedia before “rest in power” this particular guy.

One of Kodo Fuyuki’s dying wishes was to wrestle Shinya Hashimoto one last time in a barbed wire deathmatch at Kawasaki Stadium on 5 May 2003. Fuyuki passed before it could happen, so Hashimoto and Kintaro Kanemura carried his ashes into the wire as his wife sobbed at ringside.

From Clickhole's "Incredible! We Asked These Astronauts What It’s Like To Be In Space," Barry Wilmore: You never know true beauty until you see Earth from space, or true terror until you hear someone knocking on the space station door from outside. You look through the porthole and see an astronaut, but all your crew is inside and accounted for. You use the comm to ask who it is and he says he’s Ramirez returning from a repair mission, but Ramirez is sitting right next to you in the command module and he’s just as confused as you are. When you tell the guy this over the radio he starts banging on the door louder and harder, begging you to let him in, saying he’s the real Ramirez. Meanwhile, the Ramirez inside with you is pleading to keep the airlock shut. It really puts life on Earth into perspective.

And Rite of Spring absolutely contains some of the jarring syncopations I’m doing in my cut up noise, I’ve never made that connection before either.

Listening to Petrushka by Stravinsky now and marveling at how it both previews technical death metal ala Suffocation with it containing the Liege of Inveracity mosh part rhythm, and turntablism with the chopped up rewind play that measure/half measure/quarter measure again moment. Fun to spot these.

Well, it worked amazingly well for 3 in a row, but it def got shaky with Dead Reckoning and I haven’t seen the latest one yet but word of mouth is that’s where it’s fallen apart (which is why I didn’t rush out to see it.)

I also loved Hall of the Mountain King and why, yes, I do like heavy metal a lot, why do you ask?

Feel like if you were a kid with a classical music obsessed parent and this was one of the pieces you gravitated to most strongly, a future of listening to lots of Xenakis and Merzbow is not too surprising.

If 60-something years earlier fits the spirit of the inquiry, this is first thing that came to mind (the composition rather than this specific performance): youtu.be/yrhGmXY_wpk
