We are on the South Fork of the Kern River in California. (West Slope of the Southern Sierras). We had a breeding population in the past but it’s been declining. I’ve never seen one 🥹

House Sparrows are the loud, high-drama neighbors everyone wishes would move out of the neighborhood. (But I love them and their antics!)

Screen shot of my resident birds via the Merlin bird sound app. In order of appearance: Red-Winged Blackbird, House Sparrow, Common Raven, Northern Mockingbird, House Finch, and a new-to-me Killdeer. Missing here is the late-to-the-game White-crowned Sparrow (my fav bird friend.)

I recorded my very first #TenMinMerlin today from my bathroom window. It faces the bushes where my birds are very noisy. But it also caught the neighbor loudly playing video games (“that mf’er is going down!”) and a military jet in test flight.🤷‍♀️ I learned we have Killdeer in the area, prob in flight
