Better to keep one's mouth closed and risk looking like an idiot, than to open it and remove all doubt.

With current border policies, it is unethical to continue holding so many important science conferences in the US. In addition to moving conferences to safer international locations, US organizers must reorganize meetings around remote participation.
Bluesky is a hard place to get noticed enough to start a conversation. I've had better luck on Mastodon but I've been there much longer tbh.
Ugh. I miss threads. I miss people interacting with me. I miss being able to start a discussion.
But if disappearing is what I had to do to get people to help stop supporting x, then.... So be it

Them: Any last words?
Me: I won't be shocked if this doesn't work.
This doesn't look good.
Me wearing a giant inflatable flamingo costume that looks like I'm riding it, with my head leaning back
My friend told me to pose like the flamingo was getting away from me
Instead, it looks like the cover of a very niche romance novel 🤣
If you can call it the “Gulf of America“ because some weird old guy tells you to, you can easily call a person “they/them,” “him/he,” or “she/her” when that normal person asks you to do so.
wrote a long piece about how fascists justify cruelty. It works a lot like John Wick or James Bond; you create a story about evil bad guys who deserve whatever happens to them. www.everythingishorrible.net/p/the-righte...
This is the best big-picture (both historically and globally) analysis of what’s happening in the US government that I’ve read so far.
Giving our kids MOCHAs? Gotcha. Saw a lot of open source data and best scientific practice goals here that I am pretty sure will be not at all what the Whitehouse really wants. Data will go private, results will serve the desires of the wealthy, and a large fraction of children will be worse off.
Promises made, promises kept.
Listen to Alvin Lee here, and then listen again. Whenever I get down I put this on. Then I get off my ass and do something to fix my problem. Life changing stuff for these crazy times. 🇨🇦

It'll be like having a new US State full of American citizens who love and adore your generosity, what you did for them and their families. 2/2
Mr. Trump, why not offer to resettle all 2 million Palestinian refugees from Gaza in the 50 States of the US of A? Transport the willing here, grant them full citizenship, provide them with health care, schools at all levels, homes, mosques and jobs... all free of charge. 1/2 #gaza #aid #uspol
47 title unlocked: money grubbing genocider
So evil, there are no words.
To that might add: I can't even.
Can't even start at how wrong and funked up and hair brained and I'll considered and hateful and racist and inhumane and greedy and sucking up and autocratic this is. This is like extermination and then celebrating it. Evil. Horrible.
Gaza's future: President Trump proposed Tuesday that the United States take over Gaza and that all the Palestinians there - some two million people - leave, describing a permanent relocation to one or more sites funded by "countries of interest with humanitarian hearts." As he hosted Israel's prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, for a joint news conference in the White House. Mr. Trump said that he has studied the conditions in Gaza and his idea to seize and develop it has gotten "tremendous" support from the "highest of leadership" as a viable plan to bring peace to the Middle East. Today is a good day to block.
If enough GOP realize their constituents will toss them out in 2 years then they will consider standing up to their chief executive.
Loud enough letter writing, calls, protests, etc. will strike electoral fear in GOP hearts. A single Senator or governor can only do so much. A large protracted public outcry ended Vietnam, gave us Civil Rights and the EPA. It's time for that level of community outrage again.
Senator Merkley (D-OR) has been touring Oregon holding town halls. He says citizens must as a group loudly complain they are angry with misgovernance and demand action from their legislators, especially Republicans in purple states may be swayed. Organize: Indivisible and MoveOn.
Come on folks, stand up and make your voices heard. Contact your senators and congresswo/men and tell them we will not allow this!
We got Civil Rights, the end of the Vietnam War, and the EPA because Nixon and the Republicans were afraid of the turnout of upset noisy citizens. It's that time again, now.
The power of a US senator or representative is limited and the extreme misgovernance we are seeing at this time requires enough people to rise up and loudly take notice for any fencesitting Republicans to feel mighty uncomfortable with the White House and join us in pushing back.
Senator Merkley(D-OR) is holding town halls here in Oregon and rallying folks. While he's doing everything he can, he says it will take all of us making peaceable yet upset loud noises and putting pressure on Republican legislators, especially in purple states. Organize! Indivisible or MoveOn.
Everything the White House is doing right now... #uspol
Nuance for fellow lees informed Americans: Many here wanted to defend Europe against Germany in WWII, but it took Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor to convince enough Americans to force congress to declare total war on all fronts. FDR took advantage of the attack to push America to a war footing.
