Why is it that gay people "just happen to be gay" but straight people don't "just happen to be straight"?

I'm reminded of James Baldwin's saying, "it's a weary, weary, weary question..."

Ugh. Loads of English words are basically loanwords from Arabic: alcohol, algebra, carat, caravan...

So much for education.
