I want to personally apologize to @Zelenskyy for the embarrassment of a meeting that occurred yesterday. Every day I get more and more disappointed with my country. Slava Ukraini!

Yup! I'm planning on being here full time come January. Maybe sooner if I get tired of the "other place" and the cesspool it has become

We learned about them at a beetles course, and the defining trait is "doesn't have characters of other families". Funnily enough, that's the current definition for Elateridae too

(tbf, Salpingidae is honestly one of the most life-ruining beetle families. Like they REFUSE to pick a lane, morphologically speaking)

The replication crisis is often described as a crisis of false positives, but is it?

In our (re)new(ed) preprint, we show that false positives do not explain the replication crisis, and that varying rep. rates are often explained by replication sample size. #metascience

A click beetle on a white background. This beetle, Athous deceptor, had a black head, an orange-red pronotum with a central back spot, and elongate black elytra. It has dense yellow setae throughout it's body, with the exception of parts of the pronotal black spot where the setae are also black. The yellow setae is very dense on the scutellum, so the surface can barely be seen. There are dense yellow setae patches on the base of the elytra. The yellow setae is very dense at the center of the pronotum so it appears as if there is a yellow line going through the center of the black spot.

Finally had the time to play around with my camera set up yesterday and work out the bugs. It's finally up and running! Here's a quick test photo of Athous deceptor from Guatemala! Looking forward to taking more beetle photos

My whirlwind two week visit to the US has ended, happy to see my mentors, collaborators, and colleagues at #EntSoc23. But my fav thing about the conference is by far the memes of Corteva Man.

Had a wonderful time at #EntSoc23! Great to catch up with people I haven't seen in a few years. Also got to be a bit of a tourist yesterday at the Smithsonian. No insect zoo at this time, but did get to see this fantastic type specimen in a death pose!

An important clarification about Sunday's #EntSoc23 Exhibit Hall hours: The Hall opens at 7:30 PM for the Welcome Reception after tonight's Opening Plenary. It is not open during the daytime hours today. The listing in the schedule handed out at registration may be unclear.

Ordering the free COVID tests from the govt is a joke. By the time they send them, freezing risk is high making them worthless. Pretty sure ours were delivered to the wrong address, so get to freeze over night. Thanks #USPS
