Also, the horses (quite rightly) have to stop and wait at mandatory vet checks in these sort of competitions to make sure their health is not being risked in the process, whilst human athletes are generally allowed to run themselves into the ground if they choose to.

NHS official pushed to add patient data to Palantir platform whilst also advising company

A lobbyist who worked directly for Peter Mandelson, on the Palantir board, and on the board of *four* NHS trusts.

Lobbying the NHS to hand over even more patient data to Palantir.

This absolutely stinks. Get Palantir out of the NHS. Sign my petition:

The neighbors are having one of their all night loud bad doof doof music parties again. It's like my bedroom is cosplaying my tent at hacker camp with Gerafel too nearby, but without the fun and camaraderie of camp.

Also, may I point out that the by definition a file containing malware is something someone has "gone out of their way" to create.

No, you haven't been working with Acrobat longer than I have been alive.
Not that appeal to "I've been using x since before you were born" is a valid argument anyway.

Some people really are determined to double down on being wrong on the internet. Sigh.

See example below, wrong in more way than one...

Yup. I have to say, my replies were more for the purpose of helping anyone else who came across the thread to understand it truly is a real threat, than out of any hope said idiot would listen to what others had to say & learn something new. (They proved me right in my estimation of their idiocy.)

As for the PDF format standard, it's a huge standard that has undergone many changes and versions since the original Adobe PDF format. These days the PDF Association is in charge of the standard. Improvements to the standard were made as part of SafeDocs.

Are you referring to ARPANET? I'm not sure what you mean otherwise by "being on DARPA", given DARPA is an existing agency: Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, via which quite a lot of research is funded. The SafeDocs project was a DARPA project that ran from 2018 to 2023.

He's not sowing unjustified fear. PDFs can absolutely contain malware. It's a big problem. There was a whole 5 year DARPA cybersecurity project called SafeDocs to further develop methods to detect malware in PDFs & find a safe subset of the PDF format (& use those methods on other file formats too).

I like that apparently we're all not just normal posters dreaming of returning to the homes we fled to escape fascism but some kind of shadow posting government in exile dreaming of our return *to power*

I also made use of the fact that PE classes were 1 credit, so easy to wedge one into the interstices of what counted as "full time" for no difference in tuition to take 5 semesters of fencing ๐Ÿคบ

1. The thing about science that these jokers don't understand is that science cannot be vibe-coded.

Whatever its flaws, the point with vibe coding is that you're trying to quickly make something that sorta works, where you can immediately sorta see if it sorta works and then sorta use it.

Cow Tools!

We have lived alongside cows for nearly 10,000 years.
We breed them and exploit them

It is now, only now, that we have discovered THEY CAN USE TOOLS
