Dad had some Turrentine on SACD but the vinyl collection was missing soul-jazz. Warm, bluesy tenor sax, incredible body and texture (you can hear the reed vibrate).

Gorgeous Tone Poet release. Thomasville is a standout track.

The Vinyl Fairy has been busy this year! Playing Soon.

Mostly trying to add Blue Note depth to the Collection but couldn't *not* make room for some 80s dark wave. And that Joy Crookes disc is a banger!

Now have this cornerstone record on vinyl, MANY years after @dave225.bsky.social introduced me to Éthiopiques 4.

Introduces Ethiopian scales & rhythms to familiar jazz, making it new, unique, and captivating. Incredible spatial depth here. Nice reissue

Back to Vinyl with this stunning release for my birthday! Brown's best known for live energy but the SOUND on this is relevatory, an audiophile restoration of an icon.

Perfect press by MFSL and RTI, the new centerpiece of my R&B section.

Todd Rundgren from the inside sleeve

SPECIALLY PRICED 2-RECORD SET

Continuing the orgy of self-reflection is the most mispro-nounced, misspelled and mis-understood artist on the block, Bearsville Records' Todd Rund-gren. This song, besides being on Todd's double album, Something/Anything?, hails from "Baby Needs a Pair of Snakeskin Boots," a "pop operetta" which occupies Side 4. Whereas Herr Rundgren sings and plays all the parts on Sides 3, 2 and 1 (the latter of which contains his hit single "I Saw the Light"), Todd lets some of his friends come in and play with him on Side 4. "My original idea for this side," he says, "was a series of songs with sing-along choruses. All the songs were performed live and there were no over-dubs. The people that showed up were the people who sang and played, meaning that anyone who happened to be in the studio or in the neighborhood and didn't have anything better to do came in to play. Every-body, including me, learned the songs immediately prior to re-cording them, so most of it is spontaneous to a degree. Any-way, I decided it would scan better if I drafted it into a sort of operetta, that kind of thing being very popular nowadays."

Musicians on "Dust" include Mark Klingman, organ; John Simon, drums; Randy Brecker, trumpet; Mike Brecker, tenor sax; Barry Rogers, trombone; Rick Derringer, guitar, and John Siegler, bass.

Mr Rundgren is #77. I know his production(see Skylarking) more than his songs, cool to hear his Dust In The Wind here.

Live, minimally practiced, no overdubs? Respect. I appreciate that rawness. This has been a fun series for me

VINCE! #76 comes from another wacky WB comp. Some good tracks on this. I can't imagine a time before Guaraldi was known for Peanuts, but here it is!

Great sound for a comp, recorded loud! (I can play this at min)

Irreverent text, typical of this series
Coming in to Los Angeles (By Arlo Guthrie. Time 3:08) From Running Down the Road, Reprise album 6346, coproduced by Lenny Waronker and Van Dyke Parks

Arlo Guthrie, celebrated star of stage, screen, radio, and the cover of Newsweek, noted tall-tale scenarist, and the young musician who proved for once and all that white men can indeed talk the blues, certainly needs no fluffy introduction, especially considering that you no doubt saw the film, bought the album, and watched him on Johnny Carson and all.

Since the monumental Alice's Restaurant, there have been three Arlo albums: Arlo, Running Down the Road, and Washington County.

In 1970, WB was trying to appeal to the anti-establishment kids (what happened to them??)

Some crazy, trippy, tracks on here, a lot I've never heard of!

I'll pick Arlo's _Coming into Los Angeles_ for #76

#75 is a CRAZY weird mix of music, wow

Would've chosen Cinnamon Girl but... No disc 1, only a mis-shelved "After the Gold Rush", which I have no sleeve for 😥

Nice sound, loud-mastered vinyl. Lorraine is phenomenal(!), that's soul! Why haven't I heard her?
