This seems like a technique that could have a lot more applications beyond just caustics.

Seriously, stop what you are doing and go here:
I was in middle school for Columbia. We've done reentry so many times as a people, but I'm still anxious about it!
Come on heat shield and parachutes please hold up

A WHOLE CIVILIZATION WILL DIE TONIGHT My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools. Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's "keep your children home so if you die, you die together" β instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's "we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight." It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before. "It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time. A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead. @michaelfdubois Mukad A QuBoy @michacifdubois

The front cover of a paperback copy of the Dutch version of J.R.R. Tolklien's The Hobbit, circa 1960. Eight cheerful-looking cartoon figures with long grey beards surround a smaller, waving beardless figure in the middle.
have you guys seen the Dutch cover of The Hobbit cuz I hadn't
Man it's so cool to see a live stream image of the far side of the moon. Just super duper cool.

My erosion filter is out! Video, blog post, and shader source.
It emulates erosion without simulation, so it's fast, GPU friendly, and trivial to generate in chunks.

Ever wonder ~why~ so many Western stories about samurai all tell you a story about someone who really, really, really likes honor? Where did that come from? And why is it so pervasive? What are samurai movies really about?

PIG AT A WEDDING is a one-page TTRPG where you must sneak a pig into a wedding and release it at the most traumatic possible moment.

Watched the @jacobgeller.com video about game endings and learned that Rhythm Doctor is even cooler than I thought. I played on Linux, and the window dancing is just within a fake Windows desktop here. Dancing across dual monitors would've been so cool!

Fun fact: the rover would be able to drive perfectly fine even if the inner 2/3 of the wheel rim totally breaks off. There is enough toque in the wheel motors to pull the entire rover up a vertical wall if only one of them was operating. It could drive fine if the wheels were square.
