Some accounts on X seem to be stretching the FTC story for engagement.

The FTC didn’t announce that Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, and Stripe are now barred from censoring anime/adult content. It issued a warning over debanking of lawful businesses + signaled scrutiny.

Maybe progress, but not victory.

Agree. This is a case of competing priorities. There also appears to be a division in the administration between moral authoritarians and free-market tech types. Even if adult businesses are not their priority, this still makes it harder to justify discriminating against lawful adult businesses.

Reminder that the only time Mastercard has flinched is when outrage was directed at them. Attacking platforms like SubscribeStar for Visa/Mastercard's extralegal censorship is exactly the deflection they want.

This is important if you don't want visa or MasterCard to tell you how to spend your money.

The TOS hasn't changed other than a block about how posts may be pre-screened now. There was very likely a compliance audit on Feb 20 that caused SubStar to look at ways to improve payment diversity. It's very likely the artist was caught up in that audit -- payment processors are the problem.

Yes the tokens are used to purchase content from creators on SubscribeStar, instead of subscribing to them using a credit card.

Potentially really good news here. SubscribeStar has introduced a Wallet feature w/ additional payment options beyond what was previously available.

This appears to include PayPal and other e-wallets, as well as cryptocurrency + more.

If you couldn’t use SubscribeStar before, take another look!
