This👇🏼. AOC is the only one stating it clearly and plainly. Do I have any faith that the American people will ever elect a woman president someday? No. I hope I’m proven wrong.

The "B" in NBA stands for Bron. Without him, it's N/A.

Somewhere along the way I became comfortable calling myself a feminist. Shouldn't be a leap, but it was. Now? I say this with little or no hyperbole: I'm a borderline misandrist. I don't hate myself. I don't hate all men. But holy shit what is wrong with men? The MAJORITY of men. Monsters.

financial crisis when we conjured ~$28 trillion out of nowhere to save investment banks. That's when I became fully aware that money is fake, and we could literally take care of everyone if we actually wanted to. I was always socially liberal, but that's when I became a full on leftist. (/cont)

The first crack was when I was ~13 and republicans opposed motor votor registration. I remember asking my dad "If we're right on the issues, why don't we want everyone voting?" Oh what a sweet summer child I was. Then it was a steady evolution, whose final culmination was the 07/08 (/cont)

Right. I am not treating it like an absolute statistical analysis either. But the 2nd bar is a helluva lot closer to reality than thte first. And do you know what really upsets me? Reality might even be WORSE than the second bar. I grew up in a very conservative christian household. (/cont)

I feel like there is a similar overlay of awareness I have slowly gained over the last 20 years, up to about a year ago when I finally realized pretty much what your chart says on the bottom as our tragic reality.

But calling the word use of an endowed Professor of Linguistics "cute" is completely fine and not at all dismissive, diminutive, and insulting to someone who likely dealt with similar misogynistic bullshit through her entire career? Jeffrey, please google sea-lioning and DARVO and stop doing both.

Poor soft baby. You only bully women. You can't handle it when a man steps forward with arguments you cannot refute. Maybe you should avoid mansplaining word usage to a Professor of LINGUISTICS. If you were half the grognard you claim to be, you would have said PLONK.

The Department of Energy canceled 321 grants worth $7.5 billion last October. Every single one was in a state that voted against the President. Not a single project in a red state was touched.

This week, I asked Energy Secretary Wright a simple question: why?

But to further show how your analogy fails, if someone evocatively called a book "words printed on cellulose made from dead trees" it would be just as accurate as @emilymbender.bsky.social's "synthetic text extruding machine." #Checkmate.

Jeffrey, I rarely argue with people on the internet these days. But AI boot licking is absolutely mind boggling to me, and yours also had the aroma of mansplaining to a female academic actually fighting for an admirable cause. The inaccurate language policing was the final icing on the cake.

@emilymbender.bsky.social Accurately describing how the overwhelming majority of people use something, especially in the given context (school) is literally how language works. Nobody goes to a library to see "dead trees". Your analogy is so bad you should never criticize ANYONE about language use.

Update on where things stand on FISA: this deal is a win. We got the House to back down from an 18 month extension, buying us time to negotiate on real reforms. I'll be fighting like hell for reforms that put your privacy first, and will have more to share soon.

Call For Five-Year Pause on Gen AI in Schools As generative AI tools are rapidly expanding in schools, often based on their hypothetical “potential” to enhance learning, these products are posing risks to children’s development, mental health, pr...

A "pause AI" letter that I actually like (and signed)! Because it's not about imagined doomsday scenarios, but rather putting the brakes on the rush to impose synthetic text extruding machines in schools in particular:

As a professional video game developer and college professor, I am very familiar with the various uses of AI. And while some people are using AI - especially agentic AI - for other things, the overwhelming majority of regular folks, especially in schools, are absolutely using AI for synthetic text.

BREAKING: We just won our antitrust trial against LiveNation and Ticketmaster.

Live Nation has raked in billions in profits from an illegal monopoly that coerces venues, restricts artists, and exploits fans.

This is a massive win in the fight for fairness for local venues, artists, and fans.

It is a profound irony when the nation under attack feels more empathy for the attacker's citizens than the attacking government itself.

Young adult happiness is falling. Percent of young people who are pretty or very happy has dropped from 88% to 76% over the last 15 years after having held fairly steady between 1980 and 2010

My hottest “I have no data to back this up” take is that phones aren’t making young people less happy. What’s making them less happy is living in a world where everyone is having their reality defined by recommendation algorithms that can only care about whether something keeps you watching.
