Willful or not, it isn’t evident which is my point. I’m well aware that it’s a choice.

There’s nothing actionable, yet there are several states with bills in progress to make various parts real with consequences. I am not changing my steps or what I do in schools, yet I’m not ignoring it either.
Celebrating Black History Month
Happy Black History Month!
I’m still moving forward, yet pacing myself and reading my body. My child as well as all children deserve a better world.
I don’t think they know what it means nor can they define the buzz words.
My state (Indiana) won’t challenge any of it, but I know others will.
Thank you, friend. It’s been an incredibly challenging season.
Educators:
Please read. Take moments to pause and collect your breath. Holding space for all of us.

Happy Birthday to the Queen!
Looks like book banning isn’t book banning in the new order.
“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

Goodness!
“The active intervention to end or attack anything in the budget that gives state dollars to people of color is sickening. I won’t mince my words: It’s racist. Black Hoosiers… deserve to benefit from the state budget as much as our white counterparts.” State Rep. Gregory W. Porter
Braun, IN’s new governor, determined that our state will no longer allocate funds to Martin University which is the only predominantly Black institution in Indiana. indianapolisrecorder.com/porter-react...
“Approximately 10,000 refugees who were scheduled to fly to the US have had their flights canceled and no new bookings will be made, a State Department memo says.
The memo also says that case processing is suspended, effectively shutting the program.”

Thanks, friend. We are safe. It was just a cruel reminder of our current reality.
I’m fuming and committed to moving out of Indiana.
If justice doesn’t reflect your walk, commit to working on yourself and spare the world from your performance.
Politicians who publicly evoke Dr. Kings’s words while signing executive orders to dismantle DEI/antiracism work across systems.
We all have choices. If you choose to quote MLK ask yourself how you show up into the work of advancing racial equity and a world where liberation exists for all.
Too often, I note performative actions:
People who publicly proclaim to believe in justice-centered work, while remaining silent in the face of injustice.
People who claim to value inclusion, while actively voting for politicians and policies that are antithetical to racial justice.
How do your words, actions, and beliefs align with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of justice?
A thread.
This is one of the saddest videos I have seen in 2025.
Kendrick Lamar would never…
Same fear. I worry about the implications for services/systems that support multilingual learners.

Indiana HB 1394, proposes to turn schools into agents of ICE. Schools will no longer have refugee or immigrant student populations, because our lawmakers do not care for their existence nor want to educate them.

Dr. EBR pictured with several former students who are now in college or pursuing grad studies (master’s degree).
When this group was in high school, they created an affinity space called Future Black Leaders (FBL). As adults, they have shifted FBL into a business that supports Black youth. I couldn’t be more proud of these former students and love how they keep me involved in their lives! Weekend highlight!
