Now that I'm (thankfully) lifting again in the garage, I'm doing fewer push-ups in the house, so I may have to revise my February goal. I've done 400 so far, so 100 more to make 500? Killed arms tonight! #fitbyforty
I'm back in the garage! While I may have started my workout with some cleaning, I hit it hard after that! I'm excited to lift weights again, to listen to my gym music again... and to break in my new stationary bike! #fitbyforty
Didn't really want to lift tonight (tired, as usual), but forced myself to. Took really long breaks, but I still pushed myself. As I try to say on lower body days, "Legs do this!" #fitbyforty
My resolution this year is to be more purposeful with my time. More reading, less scrolling. Lifting with goals in mind rather than whatever, whenever. To that end, I have created what I think will be good weekly routines: Week A is Upper/Lower, Week B is Push/Pull/Legs. #fitbyforty
The holidays are over. These last few days have been a time for eating and a time with family. However, another time has come: 2026, the year I turn forty. Obviously, my resolution is to be #fitbyforty. And after that? Stay fit or get fitter; not just for me, but for my family!
My chest is still a "happy sore" from Friday, but we're back in the garage! "Arm, arm, and out" is a line from Macbeth: Act 5, Scene 5. Birnam Wood is marching to Dunsinane Hill, and here am I, training arms (biceps) and arms (triceps), then I'm out! #fitbyforty
We're only four short months away from my fortieth! If asked my biggest goal in getting #fitbyforty, I'd say probably to grow my chest more. The goal of this workout was to literally set my chest on fire. 🔥 Hopefully, this chest (level), chest (incline), chest (decline) workout encourages growth!
It's been a few days since my last lift because I've been feeling... bored. Not sick. Maybe a bit tired. But mostly bored. So what do I do? I switch up the routine. The theme tonight is exercises that I enjoy but haven't done in forever or new ones I've never done but want to try! #fitbyforty
Struggled with technology tonight. Couldn't get my Nest to heat my garage. Couldn't get my Alexa unit to play my music. My phone almost died. Still, I suppose better than the mouse that joined me during my last workout. Oh the joys of garage gyms! #imakeeper #fitbyforty
One of these days, I should let go of my "increase every set by five" mantra and just go until failure no matter what number that is, but I guess I love numbers divisible by five too much. Still not feeling 100%. Tired from moving a lot of snow today. #fitbyforty
Chest day really is the best day! (We're going to ignore that I skipped my last leg day. Whoops.) This picture is probably the most I'll show of a chest pump, as I have students who follow me on here... Feeling under the weather, but I still tried to lift hard! #fitbyforty
Finally, I'm back. After several busy days, feeling beat by the end of the day, I forced myself into my garage to lift. Nothing new with my routine, but ran faster and lifter more volume than my last time. Hopefully, it's fewer than five days before I'm back in here again! #fitbyforty
Whew! Long weekend of eating and watching movies (Wicked: For Good was SO GOOD), so I knew I needed to fit some lifting in! And it was time for my favorite workout: chest! What's your favorite? #fitbyforty
Came into tonight's workout feeling extra tired. My junior high play kids had a performance tonight; I could have come home and gone straight to bed, but I knew I needed to fit this in! #fitbyforty 💪🏻
Completely switched up my chest, tricep, and shoulder exercises for my push day and plan to do that for my other PPL routines later this week. Gotta keep the muscles guessing, right? #fitbyforty
If I don't post a picture of myself, equipment I used, or music I listened to, did the workout even happen? #fitbyforty
Tired tonight. My kids are sick, and my sleep lately has been disturbed by coughing. I was going to skip this workout, but I had already skipped Wednesday and Thursday. I needed to fit this one in! #fitbyforty
Four times in the last seven days? I like it! #fitbyforty
Short workout, but intense. I skipped rest timers. I tried a new exercise: waiter curls. I thought it would be really easy, but of course, working out muscles in different ways and forms means it was not! Still, any workout that leads to bigger arms is going to be my favorite! #fitbyforty
From Season 1, Episode 12 of The West Wing, "He Shall From Time to Time":
"Government, no matter what its failures in the past, [...] can be a place where people come together. Where no one gets left behind. No one gets left behind. An instrument of good."

I was pretty tired tonight, so I leaned probably too hard on the rest time instead of hitting it hard. Still, two days in a row for working out? I'll take it. #fitbyforty
It's funny the things that give you the motivation you need to do more and be better. For me, recently, it was seeing this interview I did while wearing this shirt. In short, I don't love the way I look in it, so I'm definitely going to hit some incline bench and some cardio! #fitbyforty
¡No puedo creer que ya haya pasado un año!
After a long summer of being outside doing outside things that I considered “working out” (moving tons of rock for landscaping, etc), I’m back in the gym!
Half a routine. Better than nothing. Goodnight!
Summer on the farm has meant so much work to do outside, which has left me with little energy for lifting. I have shifted to a new program, which will hopefully keep me from skipping legs/abs! 😅
Why not sneak a push exercise into a pull workout? #fitbyforty
